What bourbon are you drinking this Spring - 2024

I have never considered liquoring up my audience prior to speaking events. I don't do as much public speaking as in the past but I still do an occasional presentation. I am at the point in my career where I just don't give a shit. I might just bring a bottle or two to the next professional presentation and offer up a pour or two to the participants. The last event had around 50 people. So maybe 4 bottles with a 2 oz shot at the beginning and then a 2 oz shot midway through. I believe I was at around 40 minutes. So, rather than asking "does anyone have any questions?", I could ask "does anyone want another shot?" I am not sure what to do if they don't drink bourbon. I know...I will just say that the price of admission for hearing my nonsense is you have to take a shot whenever I say a trigger word or you can just go out in the hallway until I am done spewing nonsense. . Obviously, as a Cheap Bastard, they would be taking shots of shit whiskey but after the second shot they probably wouldn't notice. -

Finally got around to cracking open my bottle of A. Overholt Rye. Wow, very spicy. My taste buds aren't the same ever since I had covid a couple of years ago, so I can't give a detailed tasting of it. I can't discern between all of the flavors that others can tell apart anymore, but I know it's "spicy" more than a Kentucky rye. Not bad. Jeff -
What Irish whiskey are you drinking or purchased 2024 ?

Went back to the RB Kentucky Oak after dinner tonight. This is the one Irish whiskey I could drink regularly like I do bourbon. It's just so balanced. -

New Riff barrel pick 4 yr. Not bad, had to purchase for LS barrel club. My first New Riff. Probably wouldn’t have ever tried it otherwise. -
OK, I tried the Espresso Old Fashioned. 2oz bourbon, 1 oz Kahlua, .5 oz brown sugar syrup, 1.5 oz espresso, 3 drops chocolate bitters, garnish with orange round and 3 coffee beans. It was OK, but I would want to tweak it. Needs something to brighten it up. Maybe something with orange (juice, bitters), maybe less Kahlua. or less espresso. Or maybe it would be better with rye.

Just my opinion, that was such a better looking package compared to what they have now. -

There's an event I speak at where I'm expected to bring a bunch of little 2 oz bottles for fellow speakers. Brought 'em Blanton's Gold last time. They loved it. Brought 'em KC12 this time. They loved it every bit as much. -

Need another Weller 107 paper label for the collection? We'll need to empty it in Bardstown next April! -

The PVW15 is my favorite iteration of the Pappy lineup and I think that it's better than the WT101, but it's been so long since I've had the Pappy, (2017), that I can't make an informed opinion. If you want to send me a bottle, I'll be happy to do a SBS and share the results. -

I really appreciate the empty Centennial bottle Frank. As you know, it completed my empty Weller collection. -

I really like Popeyes fried chicken. As far as fast foods go, it is extremely legit. And I am a fried chicken junky. Fried chicken is my last meal type shit. I have a friend who thinks Popeyes is the worst chicken ever..... Prost!! Phil -

Not a purchase per se, but rather a trade to replace an empty bottle given to a fellow SB'er: Fully sealed and still a great fill. Unfortunately (I guess), it's not a "Louisville" bottle that would have guaranteed Stitzel-Weller distillate, but one of the three (3) variations of a "Frankfort" bottle that may or may not contain S/W whiskey. Oh, well - it certainly looks beautiful and she will great to share with some good friends who can really appreciate it.- 215 replies

That's a great price. The last I've seen here in metro Detroit was $35.99 for a 750 mL bottle. -

I like wt101...if you want to argue that the wild turkey line up beats the van wrinkle lineup, or that pappy is over rated, then I can get on board. If you think WT101 is better than PVW 15, then I doubt you've ever t tried PVW15. The hype is overblown, but there is a reason people like it. -
That would be interesting. The 16 yr label floating around out there on the inter webs says 100p and unfiltered which I assume covers chill filtering, I certainly hope so. I also agree as Rich said, 16yrs is a very long time in wood, too long for my taste based on any ultra aged bourbons I’ve yet tried. Given the OGD branding my hope is that they keep the OGD profile in mind while evaluating those 16 yr stocks, again the label notes allude to just that.

Time to update the "Four Roses 10 recipes"...

I agree the standard lineup is priced reasonably as the Smb and SB haven’t moved much over the years and I certainly hope it stays that way. SBBP however lives in its own orbit and that’s the one I no longer bother to look at. -

I decided to look at what Knob Creek 15 year and 18 year were going for. I figured those are the Beam products of similar age to compare. Of course, if a very small amount is released, we know what will happen $$$. Only hope it's not low proof like BH. Honestly, I think OGD B.I.B. with an 8 year age statement and NCF would be a home run.

When you think about it, it's amazing that the bean counters at Campari haven't already messed it up. I don't know if the Russells are responsible for keeping it what it is, but I like to think so. It still kicks the a&$ of most bourbons twice its price.
