  2. I’m on the EWSB train. Random case showed at up at a spot near an errand today. One per customer, but solid at 38.00

    So, whatcha smokin?

Hate to disappoint, but I don't smoke. Never started.

    So, whatcha smokin?

I was thinking today would be a rain washout, but it’s been quite nice. Enjoying some Sun, warm temps, an occasional passing cloud, a light breeze, and some tunes out front with an OGD114 and Rocky Patel Disciple.
  7. They are pretty different. Got the new label today.

    Cocktail Hour! - 2024

My Derby Day Mint Julep. Another strong mint year, in the garden. I was going to use the Woodford, but wanted a little more oomph, so went with the 4R SmBS at 104 proof. Plus, it still kept the Run For The Roses theme!

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I suck at not buying I hit the PX with Mom and showed a lot of restraint. There were a few bottles that I could not pass on, as they were on sale & duty-free to boot. KC 9 year $26.95 WR Rye $26.95 RR SiB $45.00
  10. An electric saw, a sharp knife, and a bottle of 100 proof whiskey. What could go wrong?

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I passed on KY Owl and EC18 both for $299.99
  12. Don't disagree about how good OF 100 is, but love that it's screw cap! HATE corks that break, don't seal well, AND ultimately add price to the bottle while being an inferior seal. Really wish Wild Turkey would have gone to screw caps 50+ years ago, as the collective time whiskey drinkers have spent decanting/filtering dusty Turkey because of bad corks is likely measured in years (but your point about it being good is spot on!)
  13. Trying something new for fRYEday. I like it. Much softer and gentler than the standard Beam rye. This is 80 rye/ 20 malted barley. 95p NCF.

    Chi-Town!

Evening, all: I’m going back to Chicago next month and will have some time to bourbon hunt, as well as visit a few distilleries. I know Binny’s and Koval are must-sees. Without disclosing honey hole secrets, are there spots I need to add to my list, that may not be obvious? Cheers, y’all!!!!

    This too shall work.
  16. Happy fRyeDay. Sagamore Sherry finish in my glass. I have really come to appreciate this expression. Big fan.
  17. Today I picked up a bottle of what I assumed to be the new Bulleit 12. I'll have to check the label I guess.
  18. Tomorrow's the Run for the Roses, so I figured tonight I would run for Four Roses.
  19. Getting the Camp Nelson WTKS bottles at more than one liquor store here, also. I did the zooming for you. I dunno, judging from the fill level, I guess I like it enough.
  20. That's why I filled my fancy church rummage sale decanter with OF 100. It's just too good to be screw cap material. I picked up a new FR SiB tonight on the way home from work. Now I must partake of the one that's on its way out to justify the purchase.
  21. Opted for a screw cap bottle tonight after last night's cork fiasco. Old Fo 100.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

To follow suit, 2 cases of this also showed up at my local store. Had to grab one for old times’ sake.
  25. Having some older Blanton’s on a pre-Derby evening. It rained all day here with more expected. I would not want to be in the infield at the Derby tomorrow.
  26. Following up the Blood Oath with a bottle-kill pour of GBS ETL. Only had 3-5 pours left when I brought the bottle to Bardstown last week with the expectation it would be killed off there. Was surprised when Saturday night there was still a big pour left (not that we lacked for good pours last weekend!) . . . but not all that sad I had to do the honors myself back home in Jaw-juh Picking this barrel is one of my fondest whiskey memories, as it was the first barrel pick I had ever participated in, was able to do it with my old man and a great group of guys/gals, and ETL was my favorite bourbon at the time (and was easily found on shelves). The good ol' days!
  27. Had to open something for Derby weekend
