  2. For you Commonwealth residents, the OGD BiB and the Uncle Nearest 1856 are both on sale at the ABC stores. The OGD was $3.00 off and the Remus was $10.00 off...
  3. Cross post from the "drinking" thread. Mrs. Skinsfan is having the Old Fashioned, with WT101 as the base...I'm too lazy to post her drink in the cocktails thread
  4. Always wanted to try this one. I've never seen it at a bar to try, but it was on sale.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

I, too, hit the VA ABC this weekend. 4RYL was on sale and in stock at a shade under $20 so I bought a few to get ready for Summer.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

Va Beach haul....all on sale,(of course), except for the RR SiB...but I had no problem paying $45.00 for it..

What BEER are you drinking in 2024:

Ice cold cerveza after cutting the grass here on Cinco de Mayo.
  8. Old Forester Single Barrel 90 proof ps last night.

    So, whatcha smokin?

I had a collection of pipes that I really liked to smoke. When I hung out at the smoke shop, I'd smoke cigars, but I was addicted to cigarettes.

    So, whatcha smokin?

Had I taken up smoking, I probably would have gone with a pipe instead of cigars (no cigarettes in any case... can't stand the taste or smell of the smoke). My childhood choirmaster smoked a pipe. I did respect him a lot. Even though both would involve various forms of mouth/throat cancer. I get that cigars have a different (and more appealing) flavor to them (i.e. just smelling the secondary smoke). But I just couldn't.

    So, whatcha smokin?

Good for you, I did smoke cigarettes, pipe, and cigars, but quit over 42 years ago. As it is, I still ended up with significant pulmonary disease. My PCP said if I hadn't quit, she wouldn't be seeing me. That said, sometimes I miss a quality cigar.
  12. Derby Day was Four Roses SiB Select, New Riff and a finale of MM BEP. Soooo Good.........
  13. Agreed. There is a lot of better bourbon at that price point. MM101 is still my favorite and it's reasonably priced.
  14. That’s literally what I did to pick which bottle to open. Not that it mattered, cause they’re all good.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

I found this bottle, on a hot Oklahoma August day, while on a dusty hunt, many years ago in OKC. This bottle proves, a great whiskey doesn’t require to be high in proof. In fact, lower proofing exposes a whiskey’s insufficiencies. This whiskey was well crafted by Mr. Parker Beam. I will miss this exceptional bourbon. I’m glad I have the memory of finding this bottle in a tiny store, owned & operated by a mom and her daughter. True Americana. Cheers.
  16. Moe, Now that’s funny.

    Tequila Forum

Wow, it's been a year for this thread. I'm going a bit more value brand this Cinco de Mayo, since that's what's in the cabinet. Rancho Alegre Tequila Reposado (100% agave) 1 liter bottle
  18. Me too. This one used to be an affordable staple when I first got into bourbon, along with WT101, KC9, EWBiB, MM90, OF86/100, and EC12 (EC12 is gone for now, anyway ). I'm so glad and encouraged that EWSiB is making a comeback.
  19. Eeny, meeny, miny….
  20. Over 20 years ago after our son graduated from high school, he started working at the local Off Track Betting place here. He worked there over the summers for two or three years and he also filled in at other times during those years. We started a tradition back then of betting on the Derby. Not a thing for me or the wife again this year. The streak continues.
  21. Back a couple label changes ago - WT used metal screw caps for at least some of their brands. I still have in the bunker two WT 101 Rye "Austin Nichols" with the metal screw cap. I think they are from about 15 years ago. I remember the WT 101 Bourbon of that time had the same closure.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I think Barrell has somehow escaped the Tater’s gaze
  23. A restart of the brand, I speculate this means HH’s stocks are on the rebound. I hope this brand makes a return to its former glory. Those bottles from 2004 and earlier are sublime. (Yes, I admit it, I’m a Evan Williams SiB fanboy). Cheers
  24. I pass on almost all most bourbons anymore unless they are something I'm curious about. Most notable passes this week were EW SiB, HMcKBiB10, and Wild Turkey Generations all at msrp. I've pretty much totally quit buying most all "tater" bourbon brands (NDP) over $70-80 msrp unless I have a particular liking to them based on history (Barrell bourbon is the only one that comes to mind).
  25. The re-boot of EWSiB Vintage in my area has reminded me it's time to grab one from my bunker. I have more 2006 bottles than any other particular year, but mine all range from 1999 to 2006. 2002 and 2003 have been my favorites so far.
