I can't quite make it out. There appears some foreign language on the package.

When I seriously started this hobby, OWA 7 year was the same price as the standard version of Maker's Mark (there was only the one version of MM back then). If I went to the better stores, they had OWA on the shelf about half of the time - so I might buy a couple. Kahn's was an early participant in selecting single barrels. You'd go there some times and the shelves were full of 750ml and 1.75L with the little extra sticker. They got a deal price buying a whole barrel - and passed the savings on to their customers by knocking a buck or two off the regular price.

What bourbon are you drinking this Spring - 2024

Started off tonight with OF 100 from the decanter. Gonna head downstairs and see what tickles my fancy. I'm guessing we'll stay in the Brown Foreman family tonight. -

And the donut shop in @markandrex's neighborhood is open for business!

I'm not sure if that's real, but if it is, I'm totally in!

I always wanted to do this so I just started. I picked up a bunch of 2oz boston rounds from Amazon for about $25. The price was $15 for 10 or $25 for 72, so I bought some for friends... I picked a few basic bottles I had and figured I would start reviewing them this weekend. I didn't want to mix up too many proof points, so I kept it mostly under 90, with some 101 added to the mix I started with a non-blind review of Evan Williams, which is sort of my baseline mixer. I am sort of dry- running my scoring criteria. I gave EW a 55 using my criteria. Strengths were aroma, balance and value.

My fRYEday pour is New Riff 6 yr Malted rye. I really like this one. It has quite a bit of that cola flavor note that their bourbons have. It's an interesting counterbalance to the rye spice notes.

Thrived until someone gave you something that wouldn't pass the BiB test anyway! -

I would have probably thrived as an alcohol tester for kings in medieval times. Or maybe not. -

She did notice that it had been opened. I immediately admitted to the transgression. I told her and it is the truth that it has been a long time since I have had standard 1792. It was an evaluation to assure it is fit for consumption by a family member. -

I mean, you were just doing her a favor, right? Those cork tops can be difficult for the ladies to open so she would have asked you for help anyway. -

Finished off a bottle of Baby Saz. Opened my wife's bottle of 1792 since it was sitting on the counter. -
So true. I would put Blanton's in that category. It's is generally good and I will pick one up if on the shelf at a decent price. But, I certainly wouldn't go hunting it and definitely not at the prices some of these bottles go for.

What rye are you drinking or purchased 2024
mbroo5880i replied to Mattk's topic in American Rye Whiskey
Took the day off to start the holiday weekend early. Didn't matter. Issues came up at work and I have to field several calls and resolve a few issues. Crazy Town. It's Frye Day. Finished off a couple of pours of Baby Saz. It is much better today now that it is plentiful compared to when a few years ago when it was allocated or completely absent. Nice creamy, spicy, butterscotchy rye. Worth the price of admission. My favorite budget rye. No. But a very enjoyable alternative. -
OWA is around but never on shelves. It's the ultimate tater bait bottle. I think most stores save it to keep those hunter types satisfied (you know the type; they go by the store almost every day). I'm fine letting them concentrate on that bottle while I get a phone call for something nicer. Bigger fish to fry.

OK those are all good ones alright. I guess it depends on where you live. Where I'm at KC12 and Larceny BP are rarities and are more expensive than Baker's (Baker's always on the shelf here). I am a fan of JDSBBP too, but to me most of its appeal is the intensity of flavor due to its extremely high proof. I could never drink JDSBBP on a regular basis without proofing it way down (where it doesn't shine nearly as much). -
Rittenhouse old fashioned to kick start the long weekend.
