What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

To follow suit, 2 cases of this also showed up at my local store. Had to grab one for old times’ sake.
  3. Having some older Blanton’s on a pre-Derby evening. It rained all day here with more expected. I would not want to be in the infield at the Derby tomorrow.
  4. Following up the Blood Oath with a bottle-kill pour of GBS ETL. Only had 3-5 pours left when I brought the bottle to Bardstown last week with the expectation it would be killed off there. Was surprised when Saturday night there was still a big pour left (not that we lacked for good pours last weekend!) . . . but not all that sad I had to do the honors myself back home in Jaw-juh Picking this barrel is one of my fondest whiskey memories, as it was the first barrel pick I had ever participated in, was able to do it with my old man and a great group of guys/gals, and ETL was my favorite bourbon at the time (and was easily found on shelves). The good ol' days!
  5. Had to open something for Derby weekend

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Clearing out the cabinet as for me, bourbon season is coming to a close. I know, heresy for some of you but i don’t drink a lot of whiskey once the temps get north of 70. Good thing it only hit 60 today.
  7. First impression . . . this may be the best Blood Oath I've tried! Raspberries, dark chocolate, honey, thick mouthfeel . . . just a lovely whiskey (and I think the first I've tried that had any finishing from Merlot casks? Although some listed "red wine" so who knows) Hoping to do a few more passes and have a review posted in the next week or two!
  8. Side note. Wild turkey Lazer codes are confusing, but decipherable. I look at rare bird for help.
  9. Again, I couldn’t pass the Daniel’s. . First EWSB I’ve seen in ages. 9+ year begins to put it back on track. The Chattanooga is solid for a craft.
  10. I stumbled upon a few of the old lable bulleit 12s today, still no luck finding the new one though.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

Their own (over) 2 year “Cask” bourbon is quite good. I am several bottles in, and when I first learned that it was their own distillate, and 2 years…I was floored… I say theirs, because the label says, distilled, aged, and bottled by Chattanooga. And, aged over 2 years. If it was more I would assume they would say so. Picked up another today, because of Chattanooga’s mention here. Sipping now, and it is still on point.

Maybe they can start reinstating age statements...

    Heaven Hill Cutting Back

As long as they're not cutting back on EC.

    Heaven Hill Cutting Back

Seems that Heaven Hill is experiencing a softening of demand: https://www.wdrb.com/news/business/heaven-hill-offers-buyouts-at-bardstown-bottling-plant-amid-softness-in-bourbon-demand/article_4132c75e-0953-11ef-a859-f30df3d44528.html

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

Its min 2 yr. MGP. If it wasnt Chattanooga i wouldnt gamble but… before their own distillate was used, Chattanooga had some great 1816 products that consisted of some very young (min2 yr) MGP solera bottles. Hoping this is similar.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

I would pass a 2 year ago statement at any price to be honest...
  17. It always tastes better that way.

What Bourbon Did You Pass On 2024

May go back for it but passed on the chattanooga whiskey founders blend today. Ive liked most everything from these guys but $65 for a two year age statement made me want to check with you guys. Anybody had this one?
  19. I've seen some YouTube videos which show it. I'll see if I can find the specs on it.

    The Significance of "Batch Numbers..."

The stores in st louis actually have it available now
  21. Not yet. The Elijah Craig website only has the specs for A124 - Aged 10yrs, 9mo at 119pf. They probably haven't updated the site yet. Maybe not until it starts to drop onto retail stores.

    The Significance of "Batch Numbers..."

    What’s on the menu????

My Little Wifey makes her recipe of City Chicken several times a year. It's a family favorite for sure. She swears it isn't "proper" without a mixture of pork loin and veal (another name for it is 'Veal Birds'). Personally, I don't think the 40 or 50% that's veal makes a damned bit of difference; but, that' just me. Wifey makes me a separate panful with my own gluten-free breading, so I can pig out on about 8-"drumsticks" over a couple meals... or even 2-meals plus a snack. MMMMMM!
  24. Thanks and good advice. I thought I was getting a great deal buying a highly rated cask strength store pick for $25 but the raters must have all been store employees.
  25. I decided to open up an older bottle of WFE. The whiskey is spectacular. The cork not so much. The end result is what matters. The bottle was a barrel selection by Crossroad Vintners who made several stellar picks from the Willett NDP barrel inventory. I remember attending a release event attended by Drew Kulsveen but that was a different WFE bottle that was one of my all-time favorite bottles. It's been so long I don't remember where this bottle came from. I am not certain the source. I bought it around 2013. I am guessing Heaven Hill because it resembles ECBP.
  26. Try it first. The store had 3 picks and the other 2 weren't good.
