  2. Started with a JEP Decanter pour. I really, really enjoyed it this time. I feel like I could review this each time I pour it; not because it's that different each time but because I'm not sure what I am drinking as it is so off profile. Anyway is was quite good. I didn't want to run out too quickly so I needed a follow-up that wouldn't disappoint. OGD114 to the rescue; Lovely!!!
  3. Some Bakers SmB after a morning of errands. Enjoying sitting on the deck with the humming birds buzzing around and the view of an open pool! Ah, life is good.
  4. Was swearing off any pours until Bardstown, but today was one of those days so decided to hell with that. Enjoying a nice pour of some 2014 hazmat WLW. Been nursing this bottle since 2014 (decanted it into a 375 mL several years back, and then a couple years ago into a 200 mL). Just syrupy wheated wonderfulness.
  5. I picked up a bottle of corvousier vsop and I enjoy it. I also grabbed a half bottle of calvados from total wine on a whim because I like Lairds. I have no clue if it's a good expression, but it's unique and interesting to me, and very worth the $18. Any recommendations for a newbie? Either for sipping neat or for mixing in New Orleans style cocktails.
  6. Ha! To be clear, this was done over many many days!

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Spring cleaning? Tidying up a bit because we have a company coming over in the morning to give us an estimate on new windows for our house. When it came to my bourbon/computer room, I decided to clean house a bit. I’d been holding on to a couple of bottles for sentimental reasons. I’d also saved a couple for blending, and a couple more for freezer bottles. Pffffffffft. Gone. The second picture is a last minute substitute. I guessed correctly that the remnants of the 750 ml of my Weller Blend would fit in the empty 200 ml Dant. Also and FWIW, we no longer have a big blue bin for recycling. The city saw fit to provide all new trash and recycle bins. So, now it’s out to the big brown bin. Gonna skip “with the yellow top” after this. New garbage and recycle bins in the third pic.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

I used to not care for either not long ago. But ah, the fickle (developing) palate. I think they are two of the best priced bottles out there. My goal: To see if I can tell the difference blind. Chocolate, mmmm.
  9. Wow. Shades of He Who Must Not Be Named and his 100 bottle tastings? I really like the OFSiB's, they do seem to trend hot. I do sippy sips.
  10. I got lucky. Found one, tried it, really liked, bought a dozen from the same barrel. I rue the day they are done.
  11. One of Those days. Still at the office, pouring from an office bottle (because Office Bottles). AE SP, 110 proof, Specs. This is a good one.

What did you purchase this Spring? (2024)

It's probably been 9 years since I last saw an er10 on the shelves. Where did you pick it up?

  14. yesterday was FR Sib Select, LOVE that stuff. Calumet 10, finished by a healthy pour of James E Pepper. Night... Night..........
  15. Had a friend over. All the bottles were new to him. He's a big Nancy Fraley fan. His two favorites were the SACS4y and the OO CS 10y. He was very surprised by the JD. The HH Armagnac finish was underwhelming, especially in comparison to his beloved JMCB. A nice time was had.
  16. I'm going to bring the bottle to Bardstown so you're welcome to try it!
  17. There can be a lot of variation! The only reason I know that though is because I did a blind battle of the single barrels with something like 32 OFSiB's. Outside of that very focused exercise though I'd agree with you that it seems very consistent.

Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days

That OC 1977 caught my eye. I bet I drank some of that one with my Dad. I’d buy one round just to toast him IF I could drink it with Tab.
  22. Opened a dusty from the bunker - Balvenie 17 year sherry cask - of course the cork broke - a perfect opportunity to try Mrs.jvd99's X-Mas present, a broken cork remover which I saw someone use on SB - welp, it didn't work, just pushed the cork in - so I I went manual and got one of my old Weller 107 bottles, a small funnel and a strainer and decanted into the Weller bottle, then back into the original bottle - found an old Balvenie cork (thanks again SB for advice to collect corks for this specific situation) but it didn't fit, but found a Springbank cork that fit - all good. This is a spectacular dram after all said and done!
