  2. This is one I helped pick back in February.
  3. I can still hear it now— the screaming was overwhelming. It was akin to dudes at a Pappy raffle, only happier.
  4. I could hear the end of that from my place, a well deserved pour

    Booker’s...consensus on recent batches??

Thanks! I was a little confused not seeing a catchy name on the label and just a bunch of numbers. I love ordering Booker's at a restaurant/bar but have been hesitant to get a bottle because of this whole price increase debate and the KCSB (which I also love) comparison. I genuinely appreciate the feedback. I love the intellectual debate that goes on here instead of the idiotic trolling that goes on other places.

Agreed the price was and is an outstanding bargain and the step down from 6 to 4 was bad enough but it certainly remained a delicious and affordable expression. IMO dropping bib is just lazy on their part and disrespectful of the brand.

After a long two days & dodging a few bad storms, time for a good pour. HMcK10. A nice opener. Cheers
  12. The cask strength stuff is good. I have several bottles in my bunker. They also for a while released some cask strength single barrels with a light grey label, but I don't know if they are still available. It's been a while since I saw one of those, but the standard cask strength one like is pictured is a nice pour.

Why would it in reality, it's a budget bottle to start with, it didn't get younger by losing the BIB designation in some ways they are likely to be able to make a more consistent product by blending multiple seasons. Losing the 6 year age statement was certainly more of a step down than removing BIB.

Enjoyed some of these tonight along with a Weller 12 and a little bit of George T Stagg
  16. Bulleit barrel strength. Really liking the flavor of this.
  17. Back at the hotel with an Eagle Rare 10 after earning my Dad Merit Badge by taking my teenage daughter to the BTS concert at MetLife Stadium.
  18. Took a trip to Buffalo NY and Central PA this past week. I got the SAOS SB Select and the C&K Cask Strength Brandy at the FWGS in PA, and the rest came from around Buffalo. Glad to see the Four Roses Small Batch Select, as it's not available in VA. I noticed the KCSB bottles have a chain with the barrel information on it, rather than the traditional metal sticker. I hadn't seen that before. The 4R PS bottles also had the store/age info on a tag, rather than on the side of the bottle. I guess this is new? Both are OESV 10+ yr barrels. I also got some Armagnac, a 1981 Dartigalongue (30 yr), Eric Artiquealogue XO 15 yr, Puysegur VSOP, and Chateau de Pellehaut Reserve.

@smokinjoe, that frosted bottle reminded me that I have some cheap whiskey stashed too. Every once in a while, I crave that corn forward flavor and MC hits the spot.

WSR. It’s not the fanciest. Not the most full bodied. But sometimes it’s just right.

    Any Pipe Smokers out there?

Funny, I just saw @BigPapa's post from 3 years ago, so I'm really late to the party (thanks for giving a nod to the pipe crowd!). At any rate, this year marks my 30th year of enjoying pipe smoking. It isn't a daily pleasure anymore, and these days I probably only do it every few months or so out on my patio. Over the years, I've enjoyed smoking Comoy's of London (Port wood, etc.), Captain Black (my stepfather smoked this, so it has fond memories for me), and Edward's Black Watch, which is a good everyday blend. In fact, I actually first came up with the concept of Joseph Magnus Cigar Blend Bourbon to accompany a pipe rather than a cigar. When I helped to formulate Iron Root Republic's Icarus corn whiskey finished in Port and Islay malt casks, the thought was to be able to pair it along similar lines. I don't mean to self-promote on here, since that's not really what this should be about, but I have to say that I often do whiskey formulations keeping in mind how it will pair with an aromatic pipe. I just can't help myself. I don't know if there's anything in the brown spirits world out there that I don't enjoy pairing my pipe with. Doesn't matter if I formulated or blended it, I just love the combination of a pipe with various Bourbons (GTS, WLW, older Willett blends, etc), single malt whiskeys, artisanal Cognacs and alambic style brandies, and my all-time favorite are pairings with vintage Bas Armagnacs. Although I love cigars, I would almost always prefer to smoke a pipe if I'm in the mood to sit out on the deck and smoke and drink. These days I find it has less of an effect on me the next day, which these days is pretty important. To all pipe smokers out there, cheers! Nancy
