    Confess Your Unpopular Bourbon Opinion

Ok clearly all these posts of Jack and Coke or bourbon and Coke that are in the thread are not an unpopular opinion. I use to like an occasional bourbon and ginger. However all this talk is making me crave Jack and Coke. There’s a place in Houston close to my house called Under The Volcano. They do a frozen Jack and Coke which I think I’ll try tomorrow.

Old Ezra 7 yr 117 Proof

Yeah, at the same price point I'll buy WTRB every day of the week and twice on Sunday, ditto for 1792 Full Proof. I'm perfectly happy to pay $13 more for Stagg Jr or $10 more for Bulliet barrel strength (this stuff is pure Four Roses and tastes awesome, it's surprising that nobody talks about it) as well. I'm not a huge fan of ECBP but I would grab a bottle at $60 before I would get another one of these. OEBP is a decent value at $40 but not something I'll be quick to pick up again. I've had a bottle for a couple months now and only had the urge to have about two pours. I think I'll be nursing this one for a while. OEBP falls in the OGD114 category for me. For the style, proof, and price, both are a great value. But taking value out of consideration, neither are really better than average bourbons. Easy recommendations if you want the highest proof drinkable bourbon at the lowest price, but not much point in it beyond that. Personally I think both Beam and Heaven hill need more time in the barrel to really come into their own.

    Kentucky Owl Confiscated

Everything this brand makes is laughably overpriced. They can go hang out in the corner of shame with Peerless. I had a chance to try KO Rye batch 1 blind with a number of standbys: WP store pick (MGP), HWMWND, and Russell's Reserve Single barrel. The KO came in last place. It's not a bad rye per se, but it is massively overpriced, just like all of their products. The Rye would be okay in the $60-70 range. $200 for the batch two is frankly insulting. Now this NAS blend for $125. No thanks. If I want a mystery bourbon I'll spend $40 on Old Ezra 7 year BP, at least I know the age and have a pretty good idea of the source. It's likely as good or better too, for 1/3rd the price. But taters being taters will buy it. Oh well, I suppose it's good for taters to have shiny objects to get distracted by so they're not snatching up the legitimately good / good value products out there.

That’s a fantastic price! The 375ml bottles go for almost that much in stores near me.

What Bourbon Are You Drinking? (Spring 2019)

Going to try something new tonight. It has an orange label and is called "Old Grand-Dad". It's bonded, too. Anybody heard of it?
  18. Maker's Mark Cask Strength today:
  19. Opened a bottle of WT Russel's Reserve Single Barrel. It was a store pick that I was good not great. I hope a little air will help it open up a bit.
  20. After going with some Barrel aged beers the past few nights, it was back to bourbon tonight. Normally I would not have gotten back into the pool with some WTRR store pick, but when I ran home for lunch today, there was a group of Wild Turkeys hanging around in the backyard. I took it as a sign from the Bourbon Gods that I needed to pay attention to.

I agree. I’ll even go $50-$60 based on the reputation. But, $125?
