What Rum/Rhum did you buy today?

Calvados barrel aged. Heard about this one from the Altamar folks about a week before release, supposedly a much smaller release. Haven't seen actual numbers, though.
  3. This is a very nice craft bourbon for only 44 bucks. Nice flavors. Thanks for the heads up @mbroo5880i. Good call
  4. This one showed up in Texas recently so I grabbed one; heard good things from a trusted source ( @mbroo5880i) I was able to try this one and the bonded wheater at a public tasting locally and I preferred this one. Going to crack it open shortly.

What Rum/Rhum did you buy today?

That is excellent rum. Brought some back from the distillery last summer before it landed in the states. TW exclusive still...

Best Place to Buy Single Barrel

I rarely buy single barrels anymore without the chance to try it first. LS that have a tasting bar or just a bottle behind the counter are my choice. I'm sure I've missed some good releases, but I'm sure I've saved myself a lot of money on mediocre bottles.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

This is a very limited bottle but it was amazing. Wish I had a dozen of them.

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Not so strange. I kind of do that in opposite fashion. I drink no beer as the fall cuts in. Fall in the air brings in the brown liquor...

    Mezcal

I have become such a mescal fan since the quality of bourbon has gone down so much since about 2015. But I’m afraid Mezcal has about hit its peak. I could be wrong though. My favorite local liquor store got some official Mezcal glasses in, so I’m trying it tonight for the first time. I have to say I am enjoying drinking out of it.
  12. Revisiting the Uncle Remus 1856. I'm liking it a lot more than the first time around...

    Empty Bottle Suport Group 2024

Are you sure? I know it doesn't have the vitamins of a Dickel, but come on, corn and wheat are almost a vegan's dreams...
  14. I’m sitting here watching Kacey Musgraves on Apple TV. In need a second pour and I’m inclined to THH, something nearly as smooth as her voice.
  15. Been hearing good things....we will see. Paid 28.99 Baltimore metro area.
  16. Kicking off Fryeday with a pour of Redemption 10 year. MGP had it dialed in back in 2018!
  17. I just picked up the 21yr mizunara oak double double. It got positive mentions enough places I figured it was worth the chance...
  18. Thursday was EC SiB store pick ( I helped pick), WT101 and a finale of New Riff while watching the Rome open. A good day was had.....

    Chuck, always interesting

I remember spending a good 15 minutes talking with Jimmy Rutledge about yeast and the impact the five strands of yeast that Four Roses uses in the 10 variations of the Single Barrel/Barrel Strength. Then we tasted several versions with the same mashbill and different yeasts. Great time and education!
  20. Second to last pour from my NR CS rye purchased at the distillery last year. I have enjoyed this one, good, not great but solid and worth the price. I am a wee bit disappointed in the gift shop SBs. I would like to see these distilleries do a better job of selecting what they sell in the GS as this is not a NR issue as I've experienced it at JEP and Yellowstone (though they DID have honey barrels in the mix but it was 1 out of 3 in each case, fortunately I tasted through and found them, no time on the NR visit), there is usually a slight premium and it should be reserved for true honey barrels, again this was good but not at that level.
  21. I have been waiting for the transition to house distilled. Now I am going to start paying attention to them.
  22. Did she finish all of HER Gold already???
  23. A couple of pours of ET BIB tonight.
  24. I've seen that Durand cork remover work with success by others, but I've never trusted my skills enough to take the plunge on the investment, thinking I'd probably not realize the benefits. Your experience just reinforces my first impression. I'll continue with my tried and true manual method, just like you did. I've done it enough, especially with old WT bottles, that I've actually become quite efficient and it doesn't take me very long anyway.
