Aged In Oak
I wasn't aware that this ever existed either, though I guess it makes sense considering there is a "B". Judging by the 1979 distilling date, I guess this must have been released in 1991? When was the more recent lot B distilled? Just curious. Thanks for sharing the picture! mozilla
I believe that it is the pick of the litter at Bernheim. But others might know better than I.
bluesbassdad
I was formerly under the mistaken impression that there was no Lot A.Julian addresses the point clearly here .Yours truly,Dave Morefield
mozilla
My question is: If that message from Julian, is late last year....how can there be any SW bourbon younger than 15 years available to bottle?
cowdery
The last Stitzel-Weller bourbon was distilled in 1992.Age-stated products may contain whiskey that is older than the age statement. The most recent bottling of Lot B, made subsequent to Julian's comments of 8/6/2006, is by Julian's admission not SW but Bernheim. The most recent bottling of Pappy 15 contains both SW and Bernheim whiskey. All older bottlings are still 100% SW.As he applied the term "lot" to the first two bottlings of Family Reserve, he has bottled many lots since but elected to stop advancing the lot designations.None of this should be construed as a criticism of any Van Winkle products, which are never less than excellent. mozilla
As has been said so many times before..."Julian don't pick no crap", he probably doesn't even get in the same room as crap. So, drink up my friends!Chuck, do you think there is alot of 15 yr bourbon in the lot B? I would think not.
cowdery
I think there may have been in the bottling just before the current one, but not in the current one.
oldironstomach
The most recent bottling of Pappy 15 contains both SW and Bernheim whiskey. All older bottlings are still 100% SW.Whoa, I must have missed that tidbit. Has that been mentioned in another thread somewhere? And was there an '07 bottling prior to the July run?Not that Julian would ever select anything less than superb for the Van Winkle label...I'm just trying to keep track of what's all S-W and what isn't.
