Ok, so I am new to accumulating bourbon for my cellar. I have seen a very scant few bottles of Pappy Van Winkle 15 and 20 year old bourbon but the prices are all over the place. Can some kind soul please give me a clue what would be considered to be the normative range of prices for the 15 and 20? Also, I saw a bottle of the Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye that was like $45 is that right or high?

It really depends where you're located. I travel around the country a fair bit, and I typically see the 20 yr. at between $90 and $100. The 15 at $45 to $55. There are extremes out of these ranges, however. Maybe, a touch high on the VWFRR. I don't see it much, but I think the last couple times it was in the $40ish range. I wouldn't hesitate buying it for $45, though.

Here in FL, the best price I have seen for the 20 is $93.99

For the 15 year, it's usually around $60, but I picked one up a month or so ago for $40-something.

MJL,

Where do you live? Your state may be a control state which usually but not always means higher prices. In Michigan the minimum liquor prices are posted on the internet. PVW20 is about $109 plus 6% tax while PVW15 is now $65 plus 6%tax. If you look on shoppers vineyards their prices are lower. They may or may not ship to your state but are probably out of stock until the next batch is released.

Anyhow, welcome to the board.

In Oregon the 15 is $50 and the 20 is $92. These prices are statewide, as the OLCC sets the price.

Thanks. What had me confused was the wide disparity between prices I see noted online and the reality on the ground. The prices I have been quoted for the 20 year old PappyVan Winkle have been between $90 and $120 but I have not made, by any measure a complete survey of the local area. Oh, and I am located in Homestead, Florida . That is south of Miami down near the Florida Keys.

Wow, a world away and the prices are the same. What Chilidawg says for FL is true for Tokyo.

At $43/bottle for PVW15 you should pick up all you can afford/find.

Heck yeah, that's only a buck more than Lot B goes for here in OR.
