After picking up some Four Roses Small Batch last summer, while on holiday in Kentucky I made a note to go back for more. While in Kentucky this summer I bought another bottle of Four Roses Small Batch and a bottle of Single Barrel without ever having tasted it before. The amazing experience from the original Small Batch impressed me so much that I just knew the Single Barrel would not disappoint. Well, the same day I bought my two new bottles we made our way to Four Roses and actually tasted their sampled before I was even able to open my own bottles. Well, my wife; a non drinker, was so impressed she demanded we buy more. Sadly we did not get a chance to do so before leaving Kentucky the next day (Sunday).

After getting back to Homestead I emailed Four Roses about where to get their products in the Miami area. I got an amazing series of email from the Master Distiller himself indicating their product was just being introduced to Florida. As a result I have spent much of the last few weeks running around Southern Miami-Dade county annoying liquor stores about obtaining Four Roses products. Most of the stores blew me off, some told me flat out that they would not order these products and some gave me the schuck and jive. Only one store, the one I normally shop at, listened to me. I got an email yesterday from Mega Discount Liquors telling me they would get some Small Batch and Single Barrel in today. SWEET! I swung by their Homestead store an hour ago and took home one of each (there are still one of each on the shelf but I may go back this week to claim these prizes as well. I do believe these are the first Four Roses Small Batch and Single Barrel sold in South Florida and perhaps in all of Florida by any company. The best part of this is that I paid less for these here in Homestead than I did for the ones I picked up in Kentucky. Nice store. Nice find!

Way to go MJL! Every once in a while perseverance pays off and you get lucky. I've been lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time a couple of times myself, so I know how you feel. Hope you like the 4R Single Barrel as much as I do. Joe

Joe, thanks for the comments. I am just so happy and surprised to see Four Roses in Florida. I am somewhat surprised and miffed at the responses I got from asking some stores to order this stuff up and to say they lost my loyalty would be putting it mild. The store that ordered this up is a small local chain that has been getting my business more and more. The more famous stores around here seem not to interested in filling customer requests. I love Four Roses and really like the Single Barrel and Small Batch a lot. I wish I could find the Anniversary bottlings that I see but I will take what I can get. I have noticed a lot of old timers who remember this brand from the 1950s and 1960s seem to think it is gut rot but I am here to say the product they are releasing now is top notch good stuff.

In contrast, the owner of my favorite liquor store would love to get some 4R, but apparently the company is not yet ready to distribute it to OR.

There is one store that everyone told me to go to. It is located near the area I grew up in and down the street from my parents in law. This place, Sunset Corners, is an institution in Miami so I reckoned they would be a good place to look for Bourbons. They must have had 20 feet of shelf space fulled with rums and an equal amount for vodka but, to my eye about 3 or 4 feet for all their non-Single Malt Whiskey selections. They must have had another couple hundred feet of shelf space for wines. When I began to ask about ordering some items I didn't even get the words out before I was shot down and told know by one of the grumpy know-it-alls behind the counter. That is just fine with me. That place is over priced and obviously caters to the well heeled fashionable drinker (wines, Rum, Vodka) so they will not be getting my slobbish Bourbon drinking dollars.:slappin:  :hot:

Here is the first bottle of Four Roses yellow label to hit the area. It is so gratifying to see this brand becoming available in SoFla.
