It looks like I was wrong about the VOB BIB at Binny's. I didn't have my glasses on Saturday and somebody with younger eyes tells me the VOB 100 proof at Binny's on Jefferson is BIB, so maybe that whole thing about Barton doing away with the BIB is just an urban legend. But the VOB is there, I wasn't wrong about that.

That is correct, Chuck. The four VOB's that I bought at Binny's were BIB. Can you comment on the Schaumburg store clerk's remark that the AAA is being "discontinued" and will no longer be available at Binny's? Is that likely to occur at all of their locations and, if so, should I be snapping up the remaining bottles at the South Loop store? Perhaps you've heard something about this. Thanks!

I haven't heard anything about AAA, although Buffalo Trace--like many of the producers--has been experiencing some shortages and, quite naturally, is using the whiskey it has to support its most profitable products, which the AA line is not. Also, I don't think BT actually controls AA. I think that brand may still be owned by the investors who briefly owned the distillery in the 1980s, but I'm not 100 percent sure of that. Considering the general reliability of statements made by retail clerks, however, I'm not too concerned. And lest any retail clerks reading this be offended, often retail clerks only know what their bosses, or the distributor sales people, tell them, and those sources aren't all that great either.
