Attila
I would like to ask your advice as to which bourbons are missing from my line up. I am trying to increase the depth (range of styles) of my bourbon/rye line-up, what should I buy? I have a budge of about $200.My current line up of Ryes and Bourbons includes:WT Rare BreedWT 12 Gold (1990)WT 12 Split Label (1996)WT ASBlanton's GoldOld Rip Handmade Bourbon 12yrVW Special Reserve Lot BVW Family Reserve 15yrPappy VW Family Reserve 20yrFour Roses Yellow LabelVW Family Reserve Rye 13ryOld Rip VW Old Time Rye 12yrRetired bottles Old Ezra 12ryElijah Craig 12yrFour Roses PlatinumVery Old St. Nick Winter RyeBlanton's Single BarrelI know my line up is overly heavy with WT and VW. My friend is arguing that I should start with gettin Michters 10yr and Knob Creek. . . .Any comments or suggestions would be helpful.
OscarV
There is no such thing as an overly heavy line up of Turkey and VWinkles. Two do come to mind to add to your line up.Four Roses Single Barrel and with you being in Japan you should get the Evan Williams 15yo. And have about $50 to spare.I'm not knocking the EW23yo but I would pass on it if you are sticking to that budget. But definatly get the 15yo.I see on the rakuten web site that they have William Larue Weller from the BTAC.One picture shows the 19yo and another pic shows the 2007 release. As far as the 19yo goes some people love it and others are negative about it.But you can't go wrong with the last 2 years of the Larue release. The WLW would wipe me out, and put me over by $80.

For 5 bottles that like $200 in shipping!!!I know its worth it to some here, but I guess I am too much of a cheap bastard!
spun_cookie
Shipping there for 5 bottels in $~85. 6 is ~$100... Packed well (no cost in that number for box or packing material, but most or us have that stuff laying around).

Well that works good for you then just send cash State side and you will be rolling in US only bourbon The stuff I get from Japan is around $25 a bottle for 4-5 bottels... jwrussell
Saw this late. I would have recommended the Knob Creek in a heart beat, but it's my standby and first Bourbon love.

And are you comparing to the ETL?If you're looking for a single barrel, some of the expressions of Blanton's you have over there would be something to try. I'd recomend one of the higher expressions (at least 98), I think it is better that way.
Attila
Thanks Christian.Yeah, there are two varieties of the ETL available to me. a 9 year and a single barrel. I have a bottle of Blanton's Gold open, and recently retired a bottle of the Blanton's standard. Both are fantastic. I am not sure that the Gold is so much better as to justify the extra price. The Barrel Proof Blantons would be double the price of ETL single barrel. Can someone tell me what would be the wheatiest bourbon on the market? cformes
I'd have to agree with your friend on the Michter's 10yo Bourbon; you really need to make sure that you're getting the right bottle, though, because I love that bottling but don't enjoy anything else that I've had from them. Great flavor, and when I run through my collection a splash at a time, my Michter's 10yo is where the separation between everyday and great begins.I don't know what the wheatiest bourbon is, but I love Pappy 20 and most all of the Wellers, which are both wheated. If you want to branch out from Bourbon a bit, there's a 51% wheat whiskey called Bernheim out there. I think it's a bit overpriced at around $40-45 a bottle, but it's different.
