Under-rated bourbons

I would like to start a thread about under-rated spirits.

Two that fit the description, IMHO:

1) Weller Antique, 107

2) Bulleit

W.L. Weller 12 year old - This is quickly working its way up my list. Right now I would put it up against any bourbon under $30 (and I haven't had enough over $30 to be able to make a comparison, but I bet it would hold its own).

Rittenhouse Rye BIB - I can think of no better pour in bourbon, rye or other spirit for $16 a 750 than this.

I don't find any Weller or even Bulleit to be under rated. Actually, they are highly rated by most. Maybe, Bulleit doesn't get high regard on this board...but, try visiting a liquor store...they will recommend it.

Timothy, has it right, though.

I would say...Dowling Deluxe Bib 8yr, Virgin 7yr 101 and Four Roses Small Batch(a well balanced blend of 4 of FR's componants). For some reason, it has not been a favorite of many on this board.

This is a great buy bourbon. In MI it's only $23.11 +tax. I really like its sweetness over cracked ice.

Ezra Brooks 90 proof doesn't get a wholelottalove, but I really enjoy it. <$16 for a 1.75 around here, too.

Though, I would not say that EB is full of flavor...I do like that it is still 90 proof and reasonably priced. It is usually priced near what most charge for an 80 proofer. Another that is in Texas that competes with EB is Private Cellar 90. Both are HH juice, but the PC is now a 3yr product.

Mo, I like your call on the Virgin 7yr 101, and what it's twin would be, the Old Ezra 7yr 101. The Old Ezra has been a fav of mine for some time, now. I've been getting the Virgin lately (when I'm in Bama), as I find it easier to locate than the Old Ezra 7yr. Very tasty.

I don't recall what the 101EB goes for? The Virgin 101 is only around $12/750ml. I have only found it in NC and it is a great deal for 101 drinkers. It is not as good as WT, but it is also half the price.

OGD 114 isn't available around here but the BIB is universaly underrated.

Oh, and If I had to drink an 80 proofer. I'd pick Mild Turkey. I stop into a bar once in a while that only carries this and JB white. I always have a Turkey and water.

I'm going to go with FC103. Doesn't seem to be popular with many but it's a good value and tastes great.

HH's FC103 used to be much better as an 8yr product. The 6yr has lost some of it's feathers. I wonder how much the price would change by reverting to the 8yr again?

I want to say the 101EB used to be in the $13ish range. But, when I've seen it recently, it was nudging towards $16. Your price on the Virgin 101 is about what I have seen, also.

i also agree with that. didn't like it at first at all! but when i taste the 114, i can tell it is the real Grand Dad of the family! and it's only a few bucks more.

I have not had EW 7.....how does it compare to Beam White or more premium EW products? I like the EWSB.

EW no longer puts an age statement on their black label EW. The master distillers select is a blend of 7-10yr old bourbons and mimicks the old #7 very well.

If this happened, and I'm sure it won't, we can only hope it remains reasonably priced like the 6 year, imo, is! I've also heard about a 15 year expression that was export only but, much like with the 8 year, I've never even seen the label.

Wow! A 15yr FC. I wonder if it is as robust as the 6 or mellow like someother older HH products. They seem to be able to get both types of profiles, at will.

The 15yo FC is one of the best HH bottlings I've had, well balanced, full bodied and not over-aged. Highly recommended.

Also, I support EC12 as a consistently underrated bourbon. True, it got funky for a while, but the last several years have been consistent and, IMO, incredibly solid. This is my desert island bourbon. At 20 bucks a fifth and 37 a 1.75l, I can drink it every day, too!
