velocci
Hi all, i'm deciding between two scotches. Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban (aged in port casks) that is non-chill-filtered or Auchentashan Three Wood that's aged in three different types of casks and is triple distilled. which should i get? both are the same price. can you really taste the difference between double distilled vs triple distilled? ThomasH
I can't vouch for double vs. triple distilled scotch but the difference between double and triple distilled Irish is phenominal. Try drinking a Kilbeggan next to a regular Jamesons or Powers. The Kilbeggan doesn't even come close!Thomas
sku
Triple distilling gives a smoother, lighter taste. Auchentoshan is the only triple distilled Scotch and it definitley has a light, smooth taste that distinguishes it from other malts. I'm actually not much a fan of auchentoshan or Glenmorangie, so I'm not much help to you, but there is certainly can be a noticeable difference with triple distallation. Vange
I have and tried both. There are both undoubtedly on the sweeter side for SMSW. The Auchentoshan 3W is bigger than some other Auch's I have tried, no lack of flavor there. The hard part is to choose one. NEITHER are my favorite, but I think I would leans towards the Glenmorangie.
Frodo
...but I think I would leans towards the Glenmorangie. So would I. The 'morangie "hangs" together better IMHO. The 3 Wood is sweet although more sirupy if I remember correctly.
