Hello!

I was perusing a new BevMo today, thanks to a tip from an SB member, and found a bottle of Willet Family Reserve 25 yo. I've never seen it and know that John from MA rated it as one of the top 10 new whiskey this year, but I'm not sure it was worth $200.

So, what do you think? I know it's difficult to find, but is it worth $200?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry guys, I guess I was in a bit of a hurry to look around earlier. I found another post about this one, and only one person had tasted it! A good review, thankfully, and you only live once, so I'll keep it.

Now, the next special occasion had already been reserved for opening my PVW23, but now I'm not sure... :)

No, I try not to bring out the "specials" unless toasting a special occasion or at least drinking with someone who can appreciate what they're drinking.

So I couldn't wait for a special occasion any longer, so I made the bottle the occasion. Very earthy and woody for me. Maybe it was because it was the first thing that I tried post-PVW23, but I wasn't that impressed with the flavors.

It nosed nicely (sorry, not nearly enough experience to venture a guess at all of the flowery, ginger, with a hint of mango descriptions yet), pleasantly warm for something under 100 proof, with a good dose of spice. But I think I understand now what people mean when they say that something was in the barrel too long. Very powdery, if you will.

I think I'll put a little time between me and the Pappy before I try again.

I Have had it as well. Oscar and I found the woodyness seemed to go away and open up some chocolate notes after resting in the glass for 40 minutes to an hour. This is a tricky pour as you need to be able to plan ahead and give this one some time to open in the glass before you drink it!
