Anybody ever hear of this one?

Hi All,

Just checked the LCBO website (Ontario Liquor stores), and they list a new bourbon called "Two Bob's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Cask 66 13 Years Old 1994" made by Ian Mcleod and Co, Ltd.

Now hold to your hat......its $140 for a 700ml bottle. No stock yet, but I've never heard of it.

I remember hearing about it but at that price I doubt I'll ever try it.

FYI, the LCBO website included tasting notes, and I thought this one was kinda funny for this bottle:

Tasting Note

Nose: Rich, deep, Christmas cake, wood polish, sandalwood. Palate: Big hit of oak and spice, prunes, dark chocolate and oak. Then more wood. Finish: Long, dry and spicy. Oh, and did I mention the oak? Comment: Not for the faint-hearted. For the Kill Bill, vindaloo and extreme wrestling person in your life. Score - 8 1/2 (out of 10). Well that is interesting. We have so few bourbons here and then something quite unusual like this pops up. (I haven't seen it yet). This seems similar as Mike said to the extra-aged Barton bourbon sent to the U.K. for the Two Bob's label. It is good to see any new bourbons here but I wish we could see more medium-priced bourbons such as anything from Four Roses, Evan Williams SB, Old Forester and Birthday, Van Winkle and ... the list is long. Wild Turkey 80 is back though (thanks for the tip on that) - and tasting better than ever.

There was some "Two Bobs" placed on the Gazebo table this year sourced from England. It was quite good. I don't know if this is the same stuff, but glad to have tasted it. Definitely from Bartons.

Hmmm...Ian Mcleod is a Scottish independent. Most of their stuff is blended scotch and a few single malts from other distilleries. Maybe they have dared to venture into the bourbon business. I would think that would be heresy for the scotch industry. Well...money can make you act out of character from time to time.

We tried the "Two Bobs" at the gazebo, thanks to those good old Wisconsin boys!!!!! I REALLY liked it! And....I'd like to add that the good old bourbon boys were giving me crap about it until they tried it.....and they agreed! WooHoo!~ I'd buy one if I were you!

I tried to find more information on this. The price isn't unusual since it's in the same category as other very limited editions. There were so few bottlings that one would be very lucky to find a bottle so they could purchase it. Of course, the infomation I looked at could be outdated.

If it's truly rare and high quality bourbon then what the heck, join the elite few to experience it.

Maybe it's just the Scots trying to get even with us for making single malt whisky and cutting into their profits.:cool:

I got one bottle open now (127,2). It’s very, very smooth but a bit tied and overage to my personal taste. Maybe 13 years are high age at Barton’s (Tom Moore?) were they only have middle-high floors. I think it would have been much better a couple of years younger.

I think it is listed for 79 euro in the store were I bought it.

The Ontario government liquor monopoly (LCBO) picked up some of this highly traveled curiosity and is offering it online within Ontario for $140 CAD. The presentation is gifty, but you get much more than a nice wooden box. I drank some yesterday with Gary Gillman, who agrees that this is a genteel variation of the high proof, unfiltered experience. I thought I detected a taste kinship to VOB, but I may be imagining it. Nice long rich finish, for sure.

This is cask 166, there were at least two other barrels under the Two Bobs name. The one earlier placed on Gazebo table as Randy states was not cask 166 I am quite sure.

The 166 is very good indeed, lovely nose, lovely rich taste but more light/ethereal than big bruiser/monster truck a la Stagg. Thanks for the taste, Gary.

I did have two Bobs yesterday. I don’t recall the cask number though. Right after it I did have a pour of Stagg fall 2005. Very big difference between these 2 uncut brands. While the Stagg is very big boned, flavourful and fiery and with no signs of overage the two Bobs is very smooth, woody and a bit tired. I do agree though that you can spot the normal VOB spice under the wood.

I own one, although its unopened. It comes in a beautiful display box. I suppose the high price tag for that presentation.
