recent OForester signature or older HMcKenna w/paper stamp...

but i thought it would be interesting (and maybe fun) to see what recommendations folks have concerning my faux dilemma...

i am in delaware alot (work, family), so when i go back down Monday, should i spend:

$18.99 for OLD FORESTER Signature (100)? i assume it is the newer, fairly recent, post-BIB bottling (but they've just been sitting there collecting dust for over a year)

or

$19.99 for a big JUG of Henry McKenna (the one i inquired about about a year ago -- http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8337&page=2&highlight=henry+mckenna+dusty ) which has a PAPER TAX STAMP on it...actually the store has two bottles....way up high on a shelf....looks like 3 inches of dust on it...

i assume the McKenna is possibly a 4 roses product if the dating is right (according to chuck cowdery's assessment...maybe early HH bardstown).

didn't look at the bottle up close (yet).

anyways, i do hear good things about the OF signature...

what flavors might i expect? plenty of rye? from either bottling.

Old Forester's "Signature" brand has only been in use for a few years and I haven't noticed any remarkable profile change from the previous ten years. This one and tens of thousands of bottles like it are on shelves in every state of the Real America.

McKenna from the '80s or earlier is a piece of history that you may never see again.

There's no telling which you'd prefer without you tasting them, but ask yourself: do you like consistency or adventure? Olive Garden or the neighborhood family restaurant?

i've never had any expression of the OF...so i am glad it hasn't changed.

speaking of the paper tax stamps on bottles (which this one has), i know about when they were discontinued (a little later in Tenn, i think), when did they BEGIN?

I know, Joe, and I should probably apologize as it was kind of a loaded thing for me to write.

I think about all the abuse heaped on the area I live, yet I also think about how I have the freedom and opportunity to buy good bourbon at at least a dozen, perhaps 3 dozen places within 5 miles of my home.

It hasn't changed (since the big change). Perhaps you'll be fortunate one day to taste how it once was.

i hope so, too. as i explore this first taste (i just nabbed the bottle today across the state line...), i amvery impressed. but as i have learned, a bottle changes for the better usually as it gets some air time...

i remember the OGD BIB at first was a SHOCK...then three weeks later, when i returned to it, i got into an appreciation of it and now i love it! double that for the OGD 114 i had a few weeks ago for the first time. it was impressive from sip one...and then it got better.

i already like the Signature expression...i feel more heat coming out of my nostrils than i do with OGD BIB...but there IS a similarity. i assume it's the high rye?
