Bourbon story to be told on national news

The Modern Age of Bourbon will be featured on "CBS News Sunday Morning", November 23, 2008.

A CBS reporter and a three person news crew spent several days in KY learning about bourbon's past, present and what the future may bring.

The segment will focus on the anniversary of the repeal of prohibition and how today's bourbon has evolved.

The show airs 9-10:30 am eastern.

I tried to start a new thread about this in the "Industry News" section but I was not allowed and I see all the threads there now are locked, even new ones that were started less than a year.

I was given a DVR/HD box even though I had only asked for HD, cable companies are bastards but that's a story for another thread, thus far I have used it to only record Jim Cramer's Mad Money, Fast Money and my new favorite Whale Wars; however I guess I'll now figure out an even better use for it and probably have to start paying for it... I just hate it when technology overtakes my shallow beliefs and stubbornness. :shocked:

Whale Wars by the way is a great show, I'd encourage everyone to watch it and research the facts of how few whales exist of certain species and how certain countries plan to begin hunting them again regardless. :hot:

I just caught the show and unless I missed part of it, it was 10 minutes long. An accurate but rather short, and therefore generalist, history. The part I liked best was when Bill Samuels was showing historical bottles in his family's collection. One bottle, unopened and nearly full, contained a dark-coloured liquid he said was from the 1870's. He also showed a T.W. Samuels bottle made by an ancestor not long before Prohibition, and the first bottle of Maker's Mark.

True! And honestly, this was almost more interesting than the MM segment. The coolest part was seeing the old bottles and photos, but this was pretty lame and definitely played like a Maker's commercial. Better than nothing, I guess.

But its CBS, what did we expect? Probably someone working in the news room orders a Maker's and Coke while everyone else orders their chocolatiny. So they figure Maker's must be the "shiznit." (new word I learned from Slob) :cool:

In the original post I made about this story I got all that info from their press release.

I did lead me to belive that it was going to be somewhat in-depth.

I was a bit disappointed. I expected more; however, it is probably a good introduction to someone that knows little about bourbon.

Oscar, I mentioned "CBS" by name not because I wanted you to think of Fox News. I was thinking of the recent program by The Discovery Chanel, "Modern Marvels" on whisk(e)y. and their other program "Rum runners, Moonshiners and Bootleggers". Both are pretty good programs, very much unlike what I just saw.

Rumrunner, bootleggers, and moonshiners was on last night and was a really good show. The show this morning was also basically a commercial for that guy on the show, The Top Chef. I need to eat a 175.00 per person (not including tip or drinks) dinner in one of his restaurants like I need a hole in my head. I also have the Thanksgiving menu thing down too, I don't need any more recipe ideas. I think our own Chuck C. could do a miles better job on a show about the bourbon industry and in fact already has!

Well, you guys must have not watched to the end where they did a beautiful, albeit short, pictorial on Wild Turkey.

I missed the bourbon fluff piece, but this was on when I got up. Watching the customers eat 2 pound burgers on lard dipped buns (?) almost made me lose my Stagg from the night before.

yeah, I guess I missed that.

I did like when they mentioned that the used bourbon barrels were sold to scotch distilleries and she said you scotch drinkers are getting a little bit of bourbon.

This might be bad with the current shortage if they recruited new bourbon drinkers with that info.

But the old line still stands,....the more the merrier.
