I cam across a few EWSB 1992 and I picked them up.(since I heard the 1991 won world whiskey award.)

I opened it and was not immediately impressed. so, I put it up for a while and went back to check it.

I am really surprised anyone would bottle this stuff. it is just not good.

Any chance i got a "bad" bottle?

I'd hate to open up another one to find out they taste the same.

Who else has had this and what are your thoughts????

You most likely did not get a bad bottle and they most likely will all taste the same.

Was this your first experience with Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage?

Some years are better than others, but anyone who loves one year and hates another has a very sensitive palate. To me, there isn't that much variation from year to year.

What's cool about EWSB is that it is the best 9-year-old whiskey Heaven Hill can find in its warehouses at any given moment.

A 1992 EWSB is solidly pre-fire and, therefore, definitely DSP-31 production, all of which is rated "buy" by me, so you probably can find a nearby SBer willing to take it off your hands.

Joe, for $20, who cares. What else are you going to do with it?

Worst case it becomes a comparison bourbon or bourbon and coke bourbon, best case you really like it... And still... Its only $20.

there are some distinct differences in these puppies. The most noticeable to me was the 96 to 97. Different bourbons if you as me...

Oh..m and the 92 is very ordinary... Not bad, but not great.

Yeah "E", I would hope you can tell the difference between 96 and 97! They were made at 2 different places!

I've had a few other vintages that i really liked. this one tastes nothing like the others I've had. (that i can remember)

I too was disappointed with the '92. The 1991 iteration was my very favorite to date. The '92 was rather hot and tannic IIRC.

While taking photos for my inventory database [for insurance reasons] I came across this existing photo I took when I found the 1990. There are other things in the picture but you can clearly see the 1990 and the WOTY around the neck.

Huh, I've never seen that bottle with the WOTY on the neck. Cool. :cool:

One local Hy-Vee took advantage of that woty tag and sticker. They jacked the price up for that year's release to about 40 bucks.

I found a 1990 EWSB and a 1992 as well today. But the price ($45 each) stopped me from buying them. This is pre-fire HH juice, and that intrigues me, but after reading some of the comments about the 1992 bottling tasting crappy I'm even more reluctant. Any thoughts?

$45 a bottle for those is too high IMO. I have found 1989, 1990, and 1993 versions in the Chicago area and all were under $30.

They'll probably still be thee in another 10 years as they keep raising the prices.

I agree with both of you. If the guy would drop them to $30 I'd get them, but $45 seems way too steep.
