What can you tell me about Cougar Bourbon? I first came across the name in Murray's Whisky Bible, in which he give's it a high rating. Am I correct in assuming that it is unavailable in the U.S.? If you've tried it, how would you describe it? Is it a premium brand? What is the price point and with what labels would it compete? I've seen the commercials on youtube - they're kind of funny.

I'm kind of a geek when it comes to trying new things and tracking down the unusual. Does it make sense for a Midwesterner with no friends or relatives Down Under to start obsessing over Cougar, or should I just let this one go?

Cougar is a brand available only in Australia and New Zealand. It was originally produced at Seagrams Lawrenceburg, Indiana plant!

I took a bottle of Cougar XS to share at this years Sampler in Bardstown. Many people tried it over the 5 nights we were there. Bill Friel (ex Master Distiller at Barton) identified the origins of the bottle, but I'm afraid they slipped my mind with all the whiskey I drank that night :skep:

Is it bottled in Indiana? If so you'd think a case or two would "fall off of the truck" every once in a while.

I'm fascinated by the very concept that something can be produced in the good ol' USofA and at the same time be unavailable and largely unknown. And a consumer product, no less. Is it a volume thing?

There's also another bottle on the Aussie market that is not on the US one ..... McKenna Bourbon is bottled in the US by Heaven Hill, but the Australian version is bottled by Four Roses.

We also get a bourbon called Slate that is marketed as a Chicago Bourbon. (It's not highly thought of though)
