What's Up With Binny's Shipping Policy?

Prompted by Winslow's post about Old Fitz 1849 and prices at Binny's, I searched out their website .

As I looked at product listings, I noticed that a sizeable number of them were flagged with a symbol indicating that the item had to be picked up in person, not shipped.

I can see no pattern regarding which items are thus restricted. It doesn't appear to be by distillery, by price, by age, by shape of bottle, ... anything.

Any ideas?

Yours truly,

Look closely at the symbols. I think you may be confusing the "r" symbol with the "s" symbol. The "r" means you can click on that symbol to call up a review of that item. The "s" means it's an in-store item only. I saw many items with the "r" but none with the "s".

John, I must be going through a dimwit phase these days. I actually noticed the difference in the letters, but since I saw many "r's" and no "s's" (what is the plural form of a single letter, anyway? crazy.gif ) applied to the list, I assumed that the key was in error and should have been an "r". Sheesh! (Come to think of it, from the standpoint of user interface design it would be better to include both letters in the key, or even to custom-tailor the key based on the content of the search results. But I digress, as usual.)

Because of my dumb, yet imaginative, error I never got to the point of investigating Binny's shipping and handling charges. I assume they're about the same as Sam's, which means I may use them for high-priced stuff, where the cost of shipping is just about offset by the absence of a CA sales tax. (Now there's a loophole I can't believe still exists. We'd better enjoy it while we can.)

Anyway, thanks for clearing up my confusion.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

ACTUALLY. . . . .in Ohio the loophole doesnt exist anymore. There is a line on your state income tax form for "internet sales tax", for you to pay on all you have purchased in the past year. Damned either way I suppose.

I sure as hell wouldn't fill that in. Did they just throw that block in there to see who'd actually fill it in and be honest, or did it become law in Ohio that you must claim it?
