Went out "Bourbon Hunting"....here is what I shot

Went out for 6 hours. Covered 120 miles and 14 liquor stores. Here is what I bought. Total spend - $288.56 How did I do ?

What an adventure. The most fun I have had in a LONG while.

Not a bad haul. The Parkers is a terrific find and the '08 ER 17 is also a good buy. Are you adding to a collection or starting out?

Well Dave, here are my thoughts. I know nothing about the Sam Houston, or the Parker's Heritage. I do believe that I tasted the Parker's at the KBF, and from what I remember , it was pretty good. I would have passed on the Jim Beam and Old Whiskey River. These items have been discussed here on other threads. I personally don't think they are worth the price. Although, the last time I saw Whiskey River, it had dropped a few bucks. The 2008 ER17 is a good buy, as is the Rock Hill Farms. I also like the 1792. The EWSB is pretty good for the most part. It does vary a little from year to year. Theses are just my thoughts for what it's worth. Anyway, good haul! Joe

I really liked the Sam Houston when I tried it a few months back.....I was overly-impressed, actually. Now that I've tossed some more first-class stuff down my gullet, I'd be interested to see if I enjoy it as much. Still, I think it has a nice, sweet & peppery taste that's pretty distinctive. It's reasonably priced and a solid pour that doesn't get a lot attention.

To make Chuck happy, let's do the rundown:

BTAC Eagle Rare 17 is BT, of course

Sam Houston is HH juice (I believe), company is Castle Brands

Parker's....I don't know...ouch...someone help me here

I believe the William Heavenhill was released in September, either just before, or during the KBF. Saw a bottle at the distillery. Through the efforts of a member of SB.com that works at HH, and the graciousness of the folks at HH, a bottle was donated for competitors in the SB.com BTOTY competition to taste. As luck would have it, everyone in attendance managed to get a taste. It was pretty darn good. :yum: Joe

IF I lived in NY, not sure I would adverstise that first hobby......IMHO. However, as for the bourbon, very good hunt.....again - IMHO. As for the pup, got one just like him.....great dog!

Parker's Heritage is named for HH master distiller Parker Beam, and is the first barrel proof released by them. I got their newsletter the other day, and there is a new $500 barrel proof William Heavenhill commemorative bottle out. Soon rappers will be drinking this stuff!

There were three bottlings of the PH first release. What is the proof of the one you got Dave?

My bottle says 128.7 proof

This first edition of the Parker's Heritage Edition will be a cask-strength 1996 Bourbon that has mellowed over 48 Kentucky seasons on the fifth floor of Rickhouse Y in Bardstown. The bottling was drawn from a lot of 68 carefully selected barrels, which were dumped in three ''very small batches'' of 22, 22 and 24 barrels each. The Bourbon is then bottled at barrel-proof, marking the first time that Heaven Hill has released a barrel-proof Bourbon in the US. This cask-strength whiskey will only fill about 6,400 750ml bottles, and the proofs of the three batches range from 122.6 to 130.9-all a result of the evaporative process from the aging barrels known in industry parlance as ''angel's share''. You don't want a Fast Ride down there in the denominator just slowing you down now, do you?

Guns-N-Whiskey / Slow Ride = YeeeeeHaww!

To simplify:

Move the denominator to the numerator as:

Guns-N-Whiskey *(1 / Slow Ride) = YeeeeeHaww!

The term (1 / Slow Ride) can be simplified to its reciprocal:

(1 / Slow Ride) = (Fast Ride / 1)

Then restate the terms in simplified form. Ergo:

Guns-N-Whiskey * Fast Ride = YeeeeeHaww!
