Infidel
I don't consider myself knowledgeable in the realm of Bourbon... yet...But I recognized the Hirsch name and there is a great deal on it at my local liquor store. They only have three bottles left on the shelf, but I know the manager and am thinking of asking him if is a full case in the back.I've read about Hirsch 20 going for over $250 a bottle, but this must be different stuff - it has a regular price in the mid $70's but is on sale now. I've read about different color waxes, gold foil, etc...I'm going to try to attach a photo later today. It has a gold plastic screw cap under what I think is a fake black wax (synthetic?).Is it a bargain? I do enjoy the taste and would write more about it but need to get out the door.
spun_cookie
That is the Hirsch American Whiskey. Also not a bad pour... if you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket, pick it up, but it is not a bourbon...
cowdery
The Hirsch that claims the big prices is A. H. Hirsch. If you don't see the "A. H." it's something else. It's coming from the same company, Priess, but they have sworn not to use the "A. H." for anything except the old Michter's whiskey that is so highly prized. Vange
I take the opposite side, I think it is very unremarkable whisky. I tried it side by side with a Hirsch 16 gold foil and there is NO comparison in complexity and flavor. If it was $30-$40 maybe I'd reconsider it not for $70 though. Throw down $20-$30 more and get Pappy 20.NOTE: You are right, this is different stuff, not the legendary Hirsch 20.

Or is this one of the Canadians?Do we assume the "American Whiskey" is a Lawrenceburg, Indiana product?
Solomon2
I just saw this "Illinois Whiskey" stuff in my local store for $95.45 a bottle and wondered if it compared to my last dregs of A H 16. Thanks to the board, I know better than to buy it!
independant
I saw this stuff for the first time on my trip to DC last weekend. I remember reading that the A. H. Hirsch stuff was up there and this was listed for around 70.00. Something about it didn't feel right so I left it on the shelf. Kind of glad I did. Vange
Had it again recently, it really lacks any complexity and depth. I had it side by side with the $30 Weller 12, NO contest.
