Cigarman Chris
Hello, I rarely buy vodka and never drink it, but I have to get a bottle for some friends for this New Years. What would you all suggest? I was thinking Grey Goose, Belvedere, or Ciroc. Anyone like these, or suggest others?
ratcheer
I'm not a vodka drinker, either, but of those I think I'd choose Belvedere. Take a look at Tito's, too. I've heard many good things about it and it might be something new to your vodka-drinking friends.Tim
funknik
If you can find Cold River Vodka, give that one whirl, too.
JeffJ
If you can find a vodka called Rain you might want to give it a try. I don't drink vodka myself, but my wife swears by it.

polyamnesia
ya know, vodka...'tasteles'........love it though! it's a matter of smoothness....or would that be, making fiery water palatable, challenging?what a conundrum!i simply simpleton-ly like plain old, super pure, nordically filtered Finlandia. no flavors infused. please. or Tito's. or any potato vodkas. Vange
Rain and Tito's are made from corn. Rain is my house pour. Very good mixing vodkas, but I cant recommend them in a martini.Chopin, Jewel of Russia Ultra, Jean Marc XO, Double Cross are just a few cleaner vodkas that are great for martinis or to sip chilled or on the rocks.Just my 2 cents.I'll add Imperia to that list too. G-Rat
Tito's is good in my opinion...even for a martini but I'm no expert by any stretch...a vodka I really like right now is called Sobieski. It is a 100% rye vodka...and its only about 11$ a 750ml here in St Louis Mo.

spun_cookie
Get some blue ice. Very good Vodka (in teh top two for my Vodka drinking friends) and affordable. There is also a chance they have not had it....
Cigarman Chris
I ended up getting Titos and Chopin. I was looking for Rain and Blue Ice also, but did not see them. Thanks for the suggestions!
Megawatt
I tried Chopin last fall and thought it had a weird herbal taste but it was very smooth and drinkable. I had a few glasses of it straight up and I was frankly surprised by the taste and texture. In my usual experience vodka tastes like alcohol and little else. ThomasH
My wife, a long time vodka drinker, used to drink Absolut exclusively, but after recently having a taste of Skyy vodka, her and her friends gave Absolut the boot in favor of Skyy. The big problem though, is that she really liked the orange flavored Skyy and they just discontinued it in favor of 5 new flavors, none of which are orange. She now drinks regular Skyy and orange juice!Thomas
OscarV
Didn't that used to be a cocktail, I think they called it a Screwdriver.
ratcheer
Didn't that used to be a cocktail,I think they called it a Screwdriver. How soon people forget. It was certainly one of the great highballs of the 60's and 70's, maybe even long before that. Easy to make, easy to drink. Tim

TBoner
5 minutes after meeting my wife's grandparents for the first time, I was holding a very large Screwdriver. I knew then that I would marry into her family. :grin:I second Tito's and Sobieski. Good QPR for both, and you can taste the difference between the two: the former is 100% corn, the latter a rye vodka. The distinct mouthfeel of each is clear.Regards,Tim

ratcheer
Oh, you're talking about breakfast! What was the movie spy character Dean Martin played during the spy craze of the mid-60's? Anyway, one of his spy gadgets squeezed OJ and added vodka, automatically presenting him with his screwdriver upon awakening. He tasted it, then, in an aside to the audience proclaimed, "There's nothing like fresh orange juice in the morning!"Tim
GPRook
I'm not a martini drinker but I enjoy Grey Goose and Kettle One in gimlets. Both are very smooth and easy to drink.

cowdery
Finlandia may be revenge for something. If your idea of super-premium vodka is a spirit that tastes like water, you won't like Finlandia. It's often aptly compared to grappa. I always associate Finlandia with an international group of meeting producers of which I was once a member. Finlandia always sponsored a big party at the annual convention and the Finns always had a big detachment there. Always the funniest people in the room, those Finns. Great to drink with. Definitely the silliest of the Scandinavian peoples.
