Recently in the U.S. I picked this up almost on a whim noting its all-Jamaican content. In Canada it is, to the best of my recollection, a combination of Jamaican and Canadian-distilled rum and it always seemed good but not very fine in my opinion.

The all-Jamaican one is very fine, however. I was influenced too in the purchase by reference on the label to pot-distillation and the palate definitely shows this. It has a complex taste of flowers, herbs, some earth and a natural molasses flavour. I actually had two bottles, both very similar although one seemed a bit smoother, almost brandy-like.

An excellent drink worth its premium price. I think any bourbon drinker who likes rum would admire its quality and I think too it recalls in a circuitous way the taste of some old bourbons I've had (bottlings from the 70's and earlier), rummy bourbons of complexity and balance, and is a kind of quasi-old style bourbon for me.

Great choice, Gary. I have enjoyed Myers's for many years. It is absolutely rich and full bodied. It is what I imagine all rum would have been like about 200 years ago. No wonder the sailors would do anything to make sure they got their daily ration.

My favorite rum bar mixes all their drinks with Caruba dark rum. I've done the same drink side by side with it vs. Meyers. I have t say the Caruba is a bit better.

Myer's is one great rum. I like mine in the summer with some sprite and lime. Makes an excellent drink while relaxing on the porch.

Have y'all tried the Mt. Gay Sugarcane rum?

Yes, Mt. Gay is another of my favorites. I have an open bottle of it, now.

I too enjoyed the Meyers rum. I have started to sort of collect rum in the last year as I do bourbon because I like the flavorfulness of rum and bourbon too for that matter.

Recently, Gary turned me on to mixing Sailor Jerry rum with my WTRR. That vatting, to me, was an eye opener. I had never thought of vatting the two before. I've found that rum, like bourbon is a vast territory to explore.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated as I navigate willy-nilly to and fro in the liquor stores hunting for the illusive gems.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum! Here's to ya matey!

I remember when Myers had three different varieties. The original Dark, a platinum white, and my favorite was the middle child, a golden tweener that had the best of both worlds. Seems the Dark was the best seller and survived.

I don't know if they killed of the white, but I remember seeing some at a store within the last year.

Both their Dark and Platinum lines are available in Ohio.
