Let's see....did a little homework....OCPR looks like BT juice? The label says Louisville and the bottle says '95' on the bottom. The VSOF currently in production is made by HH, but I don't think this stuff is, right -- no date on the bottom of this one? Saw pictures of the current bottling and the top was different....says VSOF all over it. Label on these 3 says Louisville, but current bottling says Bardstown, no? Anyway, lots of questions...I have read mixed reviews about the OCPR, but had to pick it up due to its obscurity, especially around here....next stop is to try and hunt down some Weller Centennial...there must be one in some hole-in-the-wall liquor store somewhere in the state of Maine.....Right?

The OCPR that you got is referred to as the "slope shoulder" bottle distilled and bottled in Louisville.

The later one was shaped like the Weller Centennial.

You scored one hell of a good bottle of whiskey.

Sweet! I was hoping someone would say that! It wasn't easy to track down.

Off topic question here, how does the taste of the BHC VSOF compare to today's VSOF?

I was wondering this also, haven't seen any of the HH bottles around. To answer Jeff's question...$33 for the VSOF & $35 for the OCPR.

Thanks. That is in the usualy ballpark for Texas, as well.

And, Yes...BHC consisted of...Weller 10/100, VSOF, Charter 13, Dickle 10 and Harper 15.

In Texas sometimes you can find Old Weller 7/107 in black bags that state BHC on them. But I don't believe it was actually part of the collection.

I just saw a bottle of Old Charter Prop Res, 13 yo in a squarish bottle (similar to Wathen's) for $39. Is it worth it?

Well, I guess that is the real question. To me, no. I like my BHC's around $28-33.

If you have never had any of the collection...go for one. If you like what you find...you will probably dig on the rest of them. They are all quality whiskies.

Price doesn't always guarentee flavor.

I picked up a BHC VSOF today as well! I knew it was at this store and while driving past today I could here this bottle calling my name (AC!, AC!) Needless to say I quickly made the turn around pulled into the store and picked it up! I may open it tonight! I have not had one open in some time!

Was Weller Cent ever release apart from the BHC??

Ben, to answer your question...Yes. The first release of the Weller Cent. was in a red-ish pink box and said BHC on it, all bottles in this box were from L'ville. The next release I like to call the transitional glass release, still had the BHC logo on the neck made in Frankfort and still very good! The very last release I've seen has a Gold Capsule (the Whiskey "Kiss of Death") sealing it, still good whiskey but at that point it was almost finished and I'm sure you know not made anymore!

Hope that helps and is not confusing!

Thanks Tony. I have been wondering for awhile.

Also... Andy and I were talking about the 13 year old Weller Cent. Was that a regular release or a special bottling?

Nice one, Tony....always a good choice. I know what you mean about the voices....bourbon calls my name, too...the OCPR haynted me for almost a month.

BTW, tried your 4RSB tonight...really classic stuff!

I have found a few bottles in the Miami area that I have been adding to my collection over the last few months. The prices I have paid are almost to the penny what has been mentioned in this thread. I have to wonder if these prices are not the original retail prices for these bottles and those of us who are finding the remnants of the late offering have been taking them for 10 year old prices. I broke the cap by accident on one of the Old Charter bottles a few weeks back. A full M1 clip of .30-'06 ammo fell of a bookshelf and hit the bottle cracking the cap....oh well. Anyway, I replaced the cap with a cork and have been drinking it for the last few weeks. The Old Charter is good stuff and worthy of the money. I, for one, will keep an eye out for more to add to my collection. Just keep the ammo away from the bottles.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been trying really hard to track down a Weller Centennial and finally did today. It was exhilirating....also got a hell of a good deal on beer -- $11/case for Magic Hat & Leinenkugel....I took one of each. The Weller was $29, so not too shabby. Lots of work paid off -- I visited 7 stores. Now I've nabbed 3 VSOFs, OCPR and WC.....it's hard to watch a beautiful dusty spot lose its lustre, but when you're the one plundering, it goes with the territory.

Andy,

Where there are those, there is Weller Centennial, I. W. Harper, and Dickel. Keep looking and you should find.

You'll love Centennial Louisville if you find it.

Hmmm....interesting developments today. The Maine Beverage Co (evil liquor control conglomerate) posted their tear sheet on Feb 1st and I noticed OCPR, VSOF & Weller Centennial were still on the list. I've cleaned a lot of house lately, but when I've talked to ME Bev Co before they said that no more bottles were available for order, so I figured whatever was on the shelf was all that was left. That is why I am baffled to see these still listed on the tear sheet. I talked to ME Bev Co again today and although they had none of these bottles in their immediate stock, strangely they still encouraged me to place an order at my local liquor store....couldn't hurt, right? I placed an order for two bottles of Centennial which I'm sure won't show up on Friday when the order comes in.

The interesting part was when I talked to the guy at the liquor store I was ordering from he said, "Oh, yeah....I remember seeing these 10 or 12 years ago with the IW Harper....." Bingo. So, there definitely was some Harper & Dickel around also like everyone keeps telling me, I just need to dig those bad boys up. Going on a small hunt Friday, got my route planned....wish me luck!

Good Luck, Andy! There are lots of lurkers who would poach on you. They troll SB.COM to pick up info on availability of cool bottles like these. Next thing you know, they're making money on your hard work. Be careful on what you post, until you've scored. You've put the work into it. You want to make sure you reap the rewards.
