I was at my liquor store today and saw the new OFBB. Owner told me he just got the delivery today. I've noticed some folks mention they were awaiting it so thought I'd pass along the news.

I'm excited to go pour a glass now but thought I'd pass along the good news first.

CG, that was very kind of you...when you're done hit us up with some tasting notes as well!

I do not collect these but I think I have a 2003 open...it's one of 2 I own.

YES for the info CG! Thanks for the info.

Tony, do yourself a favor and get a bottle of the 2006. I was skeptical too, mostly because of that damn bottle shaped, until popping the top on the 2006 and have been a believer ever since! The 2007 is very good as well, but the 2006 rivals the 02 IMHO. No joke, it is damn fine bourbon.

BTW, I am going to move this thread over to the premium forum since that's where the other is...

Hey now... I'm hoping there is an 04 with my name on it there????:skep:

For me, the 2007 has been the best of them all...... so bring on the '08 !!!

I've always had a sweet tooth for the OFBBs (except the bastard 8 yr old but it wasn't THAT bad) and look forward to seeing it soon. What color is the label this year? I built a special shelf just for the OFBBs and can fit two more before I have to build another....

The 06 was an exceptional bottling but the 07 didn't suck. I'm hoping it's worth the wait.

....the 06 is my favorite bourbon of all-time. Malt Advocate gave the 07 a higher rating, but it doesn't change my mind about the 06. BB

The bottle label is green this year. The hang tag on the neck has the following information:

"This year's Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is crafted from a 62 barrel batch of 95106. These barrels were filled and entered on the 6th floor of Warehouse H on September 6, 1995. This is an upper floor location which builds heat in the summer months ensuring that a robust, complex character will develop."

I'm new to the bourbon game so am not sure I could effectively describe my experience so I'll pass along the taste notes from the hang tag as well

"Color - Dark toffee

Aroma - Rich caramel and chocolate notes mingle with a sweet coconut note. Deep dark fruit, citrus and oak notes add complexity.

Taste - A robust combination of caramelized oak, ripe apple, vanilla and toasted coconut grace the palate. Spiced with cinnamon and delicate mint notes.

Finish - Long with a subtle fruit and spice character"

I enjoyed it but not sure i could taste it they way they described it. Sadly haven't had any OFBB previously so can not provide a comparison to other years. I'll try another glass tonight and take a stab at providing my own notes.

  • 2 weeks later...

I guess it is an 'after' dinner bourbon this year.

Too bad, I have had a couple bottles of the 2007 looking for something I liked as much as the 2008BTAC barrel proof's. This is one of the few that came close enough to buying a second bottle for my taste! I guess I'll skip this years OFBB and get another 2007 or the 2006 since some of you liked it more than the 2007. Thanks!
