Lookin' good Andy and it looks like fun.

My wife and I were in Maine in '79 or '80.

July, on the beach, ate lobster everyday.

You're welcome to return any time you wish...I will arrange a kingly welcome.

After my disappointing trips on Friday & Saturday, I had the itch really bad. I was talking to the Maine Beverage Co trying to track down some WTKS (unsuccessfully) and the person on the phone mentioned that a very small store which I had already visited has a huge cellar and don't put all of their stock out. I am always skeptical about the fabled "back room", but I am also thorough.

In a tear I left work early and booked it up there. After finding nothing on the shelf yet again, I shyly asked if there was a cellar. The girl at the register's eyes opened wide to reveal to me that indeed, there was a large stash. Although I was not admitted, a very nice lady did return with three Weller Centennials and an OCPR slope shoulder. Apparently, they are a distributor for local restaurants as well. She was grateful to sell off these bottles and told me to come back anytime....I wonder if I can get access to this cellar....I bet there are all sorts of goodies down there. Anyway, I'm happy.

Two different angles!

I love following your stories and am glad you have success.

I'm actually jealous since in Ohio I don't have the opportunity to go dusty hunting. In lieu of that, I am compensating by doing "bunker plotting".

Valentine's weekend so the wife & I decided to go skiing. Drove up to Bethel to stay with my folks & had sushi Friday night, then got geared up to ski on Saturday morning. I unknowingly sabotaged our trip by forgetting the key to the pod where I put our skis....whoops!

So, we changed our plan and went snowshoeing up a mountain instead. Not really a mountain, I suppose, but a local hike called Table Rock. It was a clear day and the views were fantastic....

Also hit about a dozen stores but I didn't really have much luck...I did find a couple of bottles of Jacob's Well, but I only grabbed one....it was pretty far from here, I should have picked them both up, because I doubt I'll trek back over there for the other.

Anyway, this is probably the third time I've said this, but I think I'm done dusty hunting for a while...I've exhausted most of my resources. There is one store I intend to hit, but I'll wait until I have a reason to go up there.

Here are some photos of our hike.

  • 2 weeks later...

More glorious, beautiful, soft snow falling outside....it is picturesque up here this morning. No dust to be found, however. Went skiing at Sugarloaf this weekend and hit up about four stores and a nary a dusty in any of them. I think I may have come very close to exhausting my resources for dusty hunting without making a trek up into what we Mainers call "The County".

I may have to delve into the southern parts of New England and go dusty hunting in Massachusetts -- I have a few days off coming up. Eventually, I might have to head to the "deep south" and hit up Connecticut, but I'll save that for when I get really desperate!

Hmm, this place you Maine folks call "The County" sounds like something from a Stephen King novel.

Is it safe to go there?

Should you have suoer-natural powers from a past era that is only known to New Englanders?

Andy, be careful of evil cars that have bogus Weller in their mirrors.

"The County" if my memory serves me well is the upper North East corner of Maine. Between Quebec, Canada and New Brunswick, Canada.

I think "The County" is Aroostook. It is different from other parts of Maine. Kind of like Algiers is to New Orleans.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Your memory serves you well -- it is, indeed Aroostook County, and it covers the area you said -- it is large! It is also different, to say the least (I married a County Girl, so I should know!), and as Oscar suggests, it may be like something out of a Stephen King novel. There may be some serious dusties up there, but I may have to break into some condemned old buildings to extract them!

Chris, that was great!

The Spectral Wolf stuff was priceless.

They may as well belong to someone.
