Martian
Are you tired of hearing about bottles of Pappy Van Winkle 20 or 23 that most of us have never seen, much less pay a ridiculous price for? I've never even seen a bottle of Pappy 15. Are you tired of hearing about export only bottles of Wild Turkey? Are you tired of hearing about extinct brands like 1968 bottles of Old Crow 86 or even WT RR 101 or Eagle Rare 101? They are gone. Get over it. Are you tired of Jim Beam bashing? What's that all about? I think the current JB Black is outstanding and reasonably priced. Are you tired of hearing about distilleries that burned down or closed decades ago?Ok, I'm ready. Bash away.Steve
spun_cookie
The JB Black 8 yr on American Airlines is tasty. I like it better than the MM thay had for years. If you need a store location in Dallas to find PVW 15, 20 and 23 let me know (PM me) there are a bunch that carry it down there. The WTRR 101 and ER 101 is still on the shelves in a lot of places as with a lot of the other bourbon that folks are lucky enough to put their hands one. Sort of like an Easter Egg hunt for us bourbon nuts. These things come in waves. At least from all the older threads I have read. The Old Crow 10yr / 86 proof as an example was big when the got a set 3-4 yrs ago and then the discussion dropped off. Then I was guilty of finding a few and distributing them among SB members for the cost I got them at (Do you want one, I have a few left over, PM me). I am sure that discussion will drop off in a couple months. The booze will be gone and only memories left... I do not like the scotch threads, so I skip those. I personally think it is a spoiled whiskey that folks have grown to like through a long, painful, torturous path like being a POW.... I have always wondered if big scotch fans like molded bread and spoiled milk I will admit I have been brain rapped with more history than I ever wanted to know, but it has been great when I walk into a rundown liquor store and I can pick up some Old Fitzgerald Bond and Prime, Early Times, ER, Old Taylor, Old Forester, pre fire HH, UD distilled Old Grand Dad, Virginia Gentleman and a few others and know about how good the juice is based on the Tax stamp, UPC code or lack there of and the Government warning or lack their of. What I find interesting is being able to compare the DSP 16 juice against the DSP 31, 24 or 1 and know why they may be different so I can search out some of the others in that line I may care for. It is nice knowing that I can look at pre 90 Rebel yell and know it is close to the 80s Cabin Still and the Old Fitz Prime and BIB. Since the distillery sold in 72, the changes can be depicted by taste and broken into 2-3 yr increments where the distillation, age, barreling, rick procedure and other process elements changed and know that without opening the bottle in the store about how good it is and know if I will like it.. .I think that is neat.... I have been surprised that a lot of the export only WTs are or were available in select locations here in the states. That confuses me, but then again it is a short trip that gets me lost. I have been also amazed that all the only WT that is gone here has ended up on Japan auction websites like Yahoo. How did they get so much US only release bourbon... But, alas, this is a tired of hearing thread... So, I am tired of hearing "Change we can believe in" :deadhorse: :70358-devil: Sorry Martin, I could not resist... this was far more fun than cleaning the house.... TomH
Not bashing, but my simple answer is .....No!To be honest, I really wouldn't see a purpose for a discussion forum that limited itself to mass marketed items. I appreciate the insights that members give on the more esoteric bottlings. I have not really gotten into the dusty hunting (with one noteable exception to buy some ORVW15/107 a couple of years ago) as I really enjoy trying all the new releases (including several that get "blasted" by many on this board (e.g. Woodford 4 grain, Woodword Sweet Mash, Ri1, etc). Just because someone else doesn't like it, has no bearing on what I enjoy. Likewise, just because I am not the biggest Wild Turkey fan around, does not mean that I don't enjoying hearing others talk about it.I see this forum as a vast font of information. I really don't need to know much more on the mass release items, I had them and I know what I like and don't like (BTW, I think I remember a thread some time back where serveral folks - I think I was one, but don't remember if I actually posted) discussed that JBB was a good value pour (and there was a similiar thread on the dark side folder about JWB)). Thanks to the people on this board, I have been able to hear about and find ORVW15/107, WT 12YO Split Label, Weller 12 bottled from SW and serveral other limited bottlings. If I wasn't interested in these items, I could get anything I need by just going to my corner liquor store. Finally, if I hadn't been interested in all this esoteric information, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet and enjoy time with the many members I have been able to meet in real life and share a drink or two or three or....lost count at the Gazebo).Tom

After I get an idea where the thread is going, I just avoid the ones that I don't want to follow.I'm not sure I understand. Threads with a negative tone in the "politics section" I can understand. But are you upset at posters registering their dislike of whiskeys like Rye One or RR Rye? Negative reviews are just as helpful as positive ones provided that they are sincere observations and not just someone ripping on a product because it is their twisted notion of fun or because they have an ax to grind with the parent company. callmeox
I don't find threads stating that "bourbon XXX tastes like ass" to be helpful or necessary.Like I said, I just avoid them instead of trying to bogart the enjoyment of others here. ggilbertva
No is my answer and probably because I add to the esoteric topics on older bottles and such. There are many on this board that are passionate about bourbon and its history so for those folks and myself, I like discussions that span all things bourbon. For those that don't really care, they can skip those threads that center on an old distillery's or 60's era Old Crow, or anything else that's not current. This board spans many areas of bourbon and non-bourbon topics, so take your pick.

Pappy 15 is not a dead brand; it is limited due to their supply, but is available in Texas and I'm sure you could find a bottle in Dallas. But if you like JB Black, drink away. I like it as well; a good fair price bourbon.

Jono
No, as in most things variety of experience and interest expressed is beneficial...kinda of like listening to the radio...if you don't like a station...change it. Everyone has different interests and contribute in different ways...to each his own is how I see it. I can understand frustration with some topics or points of view but that is just the normal response to any large group of people pontificating about bourbon or whatever. It is just a sharing of interest(s) -even if conclusions are variable -for those who care to participate.
ILLfarmboy
I'm tired of government warnings. Sick to death of them realy. Who the ____ is the Surgeon General to warn me about drinking my favorite adult libation. I'm tired of seeing those infernal warnings on bottles. Frankly, they can muck up an otherwise handsome label/bottle design. I find it particularly irritating on bottles of Baby Saz. I'm not sure why. I guess because that sticker is mostly 'warning'. I leverage :bowdown:Emeralds:bowdown: "problem" to my advantage. I took my wife to his house and said "see it could be worse", to which she agreed. Although I am worried about her reaction when I show up with a trunk full of Bourbon in March:grin:. To keep in spirit of this thread, I am tired of hearing about Non Bourbon: Celebrity Weight problems; I find it disheartening when someone can tell me how much Jessica Simpson weighs but has no knowledge of Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan, the reason Iraq almost fell into a civil war or Bourbon: People complaining about not being able to find or try bottles. Many on here are more than willing to go out of their way to get you what you want (whether it is a 50ml or opening up a bottle when you are in the area) or tell you where you can find it... Stu
I'm not tired of anything on the site. I don't always post a lot, but I enjoy reading the posts of others. If there is a thread I don't like or if someone starts getting hostile, or thinks I'm getting hostile, I just avoid that thread. Even though I'm probably one of the oldest members of this board (in years spent on earth), I'm relatively new to bourbon (yes, I like that nasty iodine and seaweed flavored malt from across the water). As such, I enjoy reading about whiskeys I may never get the chance to taste. the beauty of it is that because of this board i have tasted a multitude of whiskeys that I otherwise would never had experienced. Thanks to all who have helped guide me over the last few years and who have generously shared some treasures with me.
