I usually try two when I'm the only one drinking.

My brother came over last night and we tried 6 different bottles. Fortunately, my wife was in good spirits (pun intended) and helped us get him home safely.

I'm still wondering just when and where Timothy came up with friends...

But to answer the question, it's a matter of several factors for me. If I just found a bottling I didn't have before I usually start with that. Then it tends to beg the question, "which one haven't I had in a while?". On chat nights I sometimes grab something I know someone else doesn't have just to rub it in...(just kidding). The nice thing about having a large bunker full of open bottles is the vast numbers of possibilities. More than anything though, as someone else posted earlier. it's whatever calls my name when I'm down there.

I'm pretty much on a pattern of drinking every other day, one or two pours, one whiskey per night, never the same as the last time.

When I joined the forum I was working full time. I was buying bourbon like crazy. Now I am underemployed. I still have quite a few of the bottles I acquired in the early days of my obsession. But most of them are more than half empty. As they are more expensive I probably won't replace them anytime soon.

I usually have two to three open bottles that are my go to bourbons. These are in the twenty dollar range, more often under twenty than above. Fortunately, this price range includes many of my favorites. Usually, I will stick to one or two of these for the evening and once in a while I will have a pour from the pricier or impossible to replace bottles.

Last night I had some Jim Beam 8 year old White Label 80 proof. This was a Japanese bottling. I don't know when it was bottled but I am guessing in the 80's or earlier. I am sure I will never see a bottle of this again. It's recognizably Beam, but not really like any of the current products. Certainly not like the Black Label. It's my favorite Beam product despite the low proof. It's almost gone...

(Oscar, I still have one and a half bottles of Eagle Rare 101, unfortunately I feel the same way as you do. If you are ever in Sapporo, and I still have some, I will treat you to a pour or two, but I ain't sending you any!)

  • 1 month later...

I play video games on line in the mornings when I get off work at 5am. So what I like to do is ask people what bourbon am I drinking and go and have myself a pour. Sometimes I am surprised at what request come out but more often then not I hear JB or JD. But I never stick with one bottle even though I tell myself I need to clear out some bottles.

Very good work. If I'm buzzing, my FPS skills are better than normal. If I go past that peak, I start to fail quite quick.

I am the exact same way when I play cod5 . I always thought it was funny a few drinks makes me play better. But again I am like you in the fact that after a few tomany my quality does take a nose dive.

Yep same here. Sometimes it almost seems effortless to pop off head shots even when I, the other player, or both of us are moving really fast but there is an extremely fine line between the alcohol helping and hurting your game!

That's very interesting, fellas. I don't play video games (although, I was entirely addicted to Xevious in college), but I notice the same thing when I play golf. If I'm sucking, I immediately seek out the beer cart, and pick up a few. The positive effects of a little beer to settle the game down are amazing. But, like what you all experience, it's a fine line before my game spirals back down from a sip, or two, too many.

Close my eyes and pick one at random, except on chat night when I try to one up Dane.

I tend to stick with one bottle until its either gone or well on its way before opening the next. Part of this is the fact that my wife really wouldn't put up with several bottles at a time. Also I find that I get a better feel for the taste of a particular bottle if I come back several nights in a row.

If I get the desire to compare some different bottles I may have as many as 3 open but I only pour from multiples once or twice to satisfy my couriosity.

I understand the need for domestic tranquility and also think staying with one bottle is a good way to learn whether or not the expression suits.

Something I've done in the past and may do again today is compare peers as in BIB Grand Dad and Forester signature.
