Stones
I searched most of the forum but was unable to find any info about Michter’s 25 Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon. I stumbled upon it and have never heard or seen it before. Can anyone enlighten me on its availability, who has one in their bunker or on their bar and if they can provide a flavour profile? :skep:
augustgarage
K&L Wines has it as a Special Order along with the 25yo Rye. The bourbon lists for $330, and the rye for $360. :bigeyes:I remember reading that the 10yo single barrel is thought to be substantially older than 10 years, but they never bothered to change the label to reflect this.See this recent revival of this thread for more discussion: http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8054

I didn't see the 25yo Rye though, nice prices - must be very, very rare, anybody else tasted these or have a bottle?

barturtle
I have a nice tax return coming up... if anyone can confirm if these really are the PA Michter spirit (and not some really old KY stuff), I will bust my butt to get a hold of one...The current Chatham-bottled Michter's bottlings have never contained any PA-distilled spiritcheck the blurb from their website:MICHTER'S If you drink the whiskey that warmed General Washington’s troops at Valley Forge, does that make you a patriot? Not necessarily, but it indicates you appreciate that Michter’s sets the standard for highest quality, limited production whiskeys. America’s first whiskey distilling company, Michter’s rich history dates back to 1753 when a farmer in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania distilled his first batch of whiskey from hardy rye. At one point a Master Distiller left his family’s well-known distillery to join Michter’s so he could be at a smaller, less cost-conscious company where he could make the finest whiskey, cost be damned. We continue this grand distilling tradition in Kentucky by never releasing our whiskeys until both our Master Distiller and our panel of whiskey tasters deem them ready. In fact, our whiskey is often much older than the age statement on the label. We are very grateful to our loyal customers who have lived with us though our time-to-time whiskey shortages. Vange
There is also the Hirsch 25 and 28 (NOT AH Hirsch)http://www.binnys.com/spirits/Hirsch_25_Year_Old_Bourbon_190005.htmlhttp://www.binnys.com/spirits/Hirsch_28_Year_Old_Bourbon_190008.html
WsmataU
I'm wary of Priess's marketing. :skep: I own a couple bottles of the Michter's single barrel. I saw a couple bottles in DC recently that were shaped differently, but still had a very similar label. I'll keep scouring the shelves for an AH Hirsch rather than ordering a Hirsch Select they are selling now.
Vange
I still see the AH Hirsch 16 gold foil around. Prices vary greatly though.

jsgorman
I don't begrudge Preiss for their pricing on the gold foil. Don't forget this is 1974 whiskey. This has been sitting in their inventory and they probably sold more bottles at $45 per than they are selling at $200 (retail). I remember when the gold foil wasn't moving and Sam's and Binny's were blowing it out.I know this stinks for someone new to the Bourbon game, but if this was a 16 year old Macallan distilled in the 1970s, it would be much more than they are asking. As far as the Michter's 25 YO - I haven't had it, but it lacks any special provenance. Finding a 25YO barrel of whiskey isn't difficult, its finding that special barrel that hasn't turned into oak soup. I'm sure Julian puts more energy into picking and maintaing his 23 YO barrels than the Preiss marketing team. It's known as Preiss Gouging.:banghead:
