Michter’s 25 Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon

I searched most of the forum but was unable to find any info about Michter’s 25 Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon. I stumbled upon it and have never heard or seen it before. Can anyone enlighten me on its availability, who has one in their bunker or on their bar and if they can provide a flavour profile? :skep:

K&L Wines has it as a Special Order along with the 25yo Rye. The bourbon lists for $330, and the rye for $360. :bigeyes:

I remember reading that the 10yo single barrel is thought to be substantially older than 10 years, but they never bothered to change the label to reflect this.

Yeah this is where i came across it initially, i saw the 10yo thread but figured they were different as the 25yo has a gold wax top. I didn't see the 25yo Rye though, nice prices - must be very, very rare, anybody else tasted these or have a bottle?

I have a nice tax return coming up... if anyone can confirm if these really are the PA Michter spirit (and not some really old KY stuff), I will bust my butt to get a hold of one...

The current Chatham-bottled Michter's bottlings have never contained any PA-distilled spirit

I'm wary of Priess's marketing. :skep: I own a couple bottles of the Michter's single barrel. I saw a couple bottles in DC recently that were shaped differently, but still had a very similar label. I'll keep scouring the shelves for an AH Hirsch rather than ordering a Hirsch Select they are selling now.:bigeyes:

I don't begrudge Preiss for their pricing on the gold foil. Don't forget this is 1974 whiskey. This has been sitting in their inventory and they probably sold more bottles at $45 per than they are selling at $200 (retail). I remember when the gold foil wasn't moving and Sam's and Binny's were blowing it out.

I know this stinks for someone new to the Bourbon game, but if this was a 16 year old Macallan distilled in the 1970s, it would be much more than they are asking.

As far as the Michter's 25 YO - I haven't had it, but it lacks any special provenance. Finding a 25YO barrel of whiskey isn't difficult, its finding that special barrel that hasn't turned into oak soup. I'm sure Julian puts more energy into picking and maintaing his 23 YO barrels than the Preiss marketing team.
