ratcheer
Vodka is also one of the best things for cleaning flat-screen panels (TV's, computer monitors). It should be a 50/50 mix with distilled water.Tim
callmeox
I use a 50/50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol and a clean microfiber cloth to clean my LCD panels. I guess that swapping in cheap vodka would be more cost efficient. I'll have to remember that the next time I mix up a batch.
ratcheer
Yes, but I think I made a mistake. The mixture is supposed to be 50% ethanol and 50% water, so undiluted 100-proof vodka is what should be used. Sorry.Tim
smokinjoe
Had one of those great moments this evening, that one has with their child. One that makes you laugh, makes you think, and makes you even worry a bit. Thought I'd share it here. My 10 year old daughter has known for some time of my love of bourbon. She knows about it, and that it's an adult drink. But, I'm not sure she knows why it's an adult drink. The alcohol, of course. She's seen me sniff it, swirl it, and sip it. She's seen me cradle my glass in my hands, and treat it like the fine spirit it is. She's never seen me abuse it. Well, I was upstairs watching the Maria Sharapova US Open tennis match on TV, when she wandered in. Sharapova was wearing this beautiful black tennis dress, with silver satin trim. My daughter, already the fashion maven, noticed the dress immediately, and sat down to watch the match with me. She was captivated with critiquing the dress, but she was totally oblivious to Sharapova's thundering forehands and total domination of her Bulgarian opponent. On a commercial changeover, a slick commercial for Grey Goose Vodka aired. Tag line of "It's all about the taste", or some nonsense like that. It showed a couple on a large sailboat, cracking open oysters, fixing some sort of fru-fru food, and enjoying Grey Goose on ice. At the end, she pipes up with, "What's Vodka?" I smiled, and responded with, "Well, it's kinda like bourbon, but it's odorless, colorless, and tasteless." She comes right back with, "That's water." I thought for a second, as I wanted to be careful where I went from here. Not being able to come up with anything deceptive, I said, "Well, it's water with alcohol in it." At this point I'm now wondering, what question regarding alcohol will I get next. Like, "Daddy, why do they put alcohol in it? Or, "What is alcohol?" Or, "Why would someone want alcohol?" Nope, nothing like that. With an incredulous look on her face, she simply said, "That's stupid." Right you are, honey. In so many ways.
Jono
Very cute story. Kids have a way of cutting right to the heart of the matter...because they don't know any better...and life is still mostly black and white.

Lost Pollito
Vodka is great for cleaning floors. I dropped 2 1.75's of vodka at work, and the floor has never looked better.
ILLfarmboy
when you want to save an empty whiskey bottle for later use, swish a bit if vodka in it and then dump it out. Place the bottle upside down in your dish drainer. It dries out better than water and its sanitary.
cowdery
For just about anything that calls for rubbing alcohol, vodka may be substituted. I've used it to clean the heads on a tape recorder.
