Eagle Rare 'Beltramos Cask' 10 Year

I was searching for some websites that would be able to ship to Arkansas when I came across a website which listed Eagle Rare 10 year 'Beltramos Cask'.

From what I can understand from the limited info on that site; it appears that Beltramos Liquor was able to secure some barrels of Eagle Rare to be bottle specifically for their store.

So I am wondering is this a marketing ploy by the website or are liquor stores able to purchase casks of bourbon just for their store? :skep:

There are many liquor stores that participate in a barrel purchase program from a distillery, Buffalo Trace being one of the ones that does this on a regular basis. Julio's Liquor did the same thing last year and is in the process of doing barrel purchases yet again.

McScrooges in Knoxville does this as well. I got a bottle of OWA107 from barrel 5 last time I was in the area. They also had ER and ETL labeled with what barrel they came from. Not just a marketing stunt, rather a lot of business with BT that they treat them to some special bottles.

If you live in one of the wet counties in Arkansas Binny's will ship to you. Unfortunately I live in Sharp county. Binnys also has their own barrel selection of a lot of bourbon's and scotch malts. Today I leave for Bardstown for the Sampler (You should come some time) and I'll stop by Roof Bros liquor in Paducah and get some of Kane's special barrel selections for gazebo fodder.

The single barrels that are bottled specifically for a certain retailer/bar/individual are usually selected one of two ways. The buyer sends someone to the distillery where they taste from 5 to 6 barrels of a specific "bottling", ie ETL, and make a selection. Alternatively, the distillery will send small samples from several barrels to the buyer and they can make a selection without leaving town. A small custom label is then selected by the buyer and added during bottling.

A label mentioning a "barrel especially selected and bottled for ________" may or may not be anything special. It depends on who made the selection. Brett at Binny's is regarded as being pretty good at selecting barrels of bourbon and scotch. I think I'm pretty good too as I know what I like to drink!!! But YMMV when tasting my selection, Brett's, Julio's, whoever's. I also know cases where someone at the distillery makes the selection for the retailer and just adds the sticker "bottled especially for......". Nothing special about that. I also don't think the barrels sampled for selection have been culled from the pack and represent the best of the best. They have been selected because they fit the general profile of the particular bottling. Each barrel will offer a unique expression of a particular bottling.

There are lots of threads here about SB'ers making their own individual selections (I did one 5 years ago) or doing a selection for a small group. It's a blast!

Thanks everybody....I had assumed that there would have been some regulation preventing this.

Stu: my mom and sister live in Prairie Grove which I think is Washington County. They have a small liquor store there so I think Binny's would be able to ship. As a matter of fact I plan on flying down for a visit next week for 2 weeks. Good time to stock up at Liquor World.

Regulations are observed by having the label be a standard one (with a little "selected by/for" one added) and by having the bottles go through normal distribution channels.

I live in Kentucky, but if I bought a barrel it would have to be bottled at the distillery, who would sell it to the distributor, who would sell it to a retailer, who would sell it to me.

I haven't done it myself, but I know people who have, and I've snagged a few bottles.
