Press Club bourbon

The chef at my favorite local restaurant was gifted a bottle of Press Club bourbon by his SO's grandmother. He said that it is a mid-60's bottling and the label states that it was made in Philadelphia.

I've searched high and low for info on this bottle and I've found nothing.

Is anyone familiar with this bottling? I'm thinking that this is right up Dave Ziegler's alley.

Give us the stats that are stated on the bottle.

What's the distillery's name, location, etc.

As you surmised, the Philadelphia origin suggests Publiker as the source.

Press Club may have been a brand and, if so, it probably was a local or, at best, regional brand. It may have been long-lived or short-lived. There have been many thousands of little brands in the history of whiskey.

Or it may not have been a brand at all in the normal sense, but a one-off bottling for the local press club. The fact that it was held for about 40 years without being consumed suggests that it was a gift of some sort, which also suggests a one-off bottling.

I have some one-offs from SW that were done for private clubs (golf country clubs and social clubs) in the San Francisco Bay area. 90 Proof 4yo SW from the '70's. My guess is that lot's of these things were done when it was tougher to sell bourbon. Not surprising that you can't find info.

Scott, maybe ask the chef to ask his grandmother for any info regarding where the bottle came from. Husband? Where did he work? A friend? Anywhere, where a press club would be involved. Anything, to start a trail. You can do it, Clouseau.
