DowntownD
for no other reason than a basic curiosity - anyone know or care to take an educated guess as to how many cases of VW's SW 20yr Bourbon are left "out there" and are available to purchase before it's all gone forever (and, perhaps, replaced with a BT 20yr)?maybe even Julian would weigh in, similar to the details regarding how many cases of the 13yr Rye are left per year until the BT juice is ready? Vange
I suspect only Julian can answer this.
wadewood
Who is to say that the current Pappy 20 does not already contain BT bourbon? (OK...I'm just trying to get Julian to bite)
ripvanfan
I would believe there are least two, maybe 3 bottling years left for Pappy SW 20 year. I remember a couple of years back when 15 converted away from SW. But I guess that does not answer your question...
doubleblank
Julian's youngest barrels of SW will be turning 20 years old in the spring/summer of 2012 (the distillery shut down the summer of 1992). So he's got it available until then if he wishes.....or he could begin blending in some BT et al juice sooner and save the SW for his 23 year old bottling. Or he could tank some and bottle it for several more years after 2012.....or he could sell older whiskey as 20 years old......or......or.....only he know's what he's going to do. I recall him being quoted recently that the Pappy 20 and 23 remail 100% SW for now.Randy
tommyboy38
Wonder if I should bunker a case? Probably a better investment than my money market account because it isn't paying much and the fine politicians here in Illinois are talking of raising liquor taxes...again. jvanwinkle
OK. I'll bite!We fortunately have several barrels of 20 & 23 year S/W left in inventory at BT.We have been bottling both 20 & 23 year for awhile in order to beef up our inventory. What we will have on the floor should last at least 2-3 years. Julian
Vange
Thanks Julian, I think you made a big group of us very happy and very sad all at the same time. The good news is we have 2-3 more years left of 100% SW 20 and 23 and the bad is that oneday it will be gone for good.
tommyboy38
I'm sure that whatever replaces the SW barrels will be excellent as long as you know who picks it.

fishnbowljoe
thanks so much for your reply, and for doing what you do.Ditto that sentiment here. I've been into bourbon a little over two years now. I thought about getting a bottle of Pappy 20 for a long time. I just couldn't make up my mind. I had never spent that much money for a bottle of bourbon before. Well, I finally said, "What the heck." and bought a bottle. Now I'm mad at myself for not getting one sooner. Pappy 20 is a one fine bourbon. Maybe Pappy 23 next. :skep: Julian, you and your son keep right on doing what you're doing. It's all good. Or should I say, it's all great! Thanks for making some great stuff. camduncan
The 20yr is the only VW bottle missing from my bunker. I intended to buy one on our trip to Bardstown last year, and even saw a bottle at Toddys earlier on in our stay..... then came our mix up with flight times on the final day, and I didn't get back to the shop :smiley_acbt: I tried to get a bottle when I got home, but VW only have a single point of distribution here in Australia, and the 20yr retails at $300 AU (approx $250 US) a bottle, so I'm not rushing to buy a bottle (heck, that's almost a quarter the cost of a flight back to the US:shocked: ) Cost aside, I did mention to my wife that a bottle of the 20yr would make a nice 40th birthday present for me in December......and, that two bottles of 20yr equals......40 :slappin: So cost and joking aside, I'm glad to hear there's some SW juice still out there for a bit longer. I can relax for a year or two.Don't get too comfortable, it seems like it is going up $10 - $15 per year. 20-20 Wines in LA already has the audacity to ask $175/bottle.Jim
