fishnbowljoe
Seeing as how my name is Joe, I remember browsing through some old threads and seeing a few posts about Old Joe Bourbon. Jeff (mozilla) even sent me a pic of an Old Joe label. So, for all us "Old Joe's" on this site, here's to Old Joe! :thankyousign: "Old" Joe
Josh
I think I actually read somewhere that a man's name sells better than some other sort of name for whiskey. Such as Evan Williams, Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Olds Taylor, Grandad, Forester, &c.I know that wines with animals on the label or animal names sell well, so it may be the case with bourbons as well. Hence Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Wild Turkey, Fighting Cock, Old Crow (even tho it is named after a person, there's an animal on the label), or Old Panther Piss, a whiskey that made several appearences in Loony Tunes. theDon
Can anyone explain to me Texas Crown "Canadian" Whiskey. Is there a story behind it that I'm missing. I took a double take when I saw it at the store.
cowdery
Private label brands are still pretty common in the distilled spirits business. That's what this is. They have a web site here. Their parent company, Mexcor, is a Texas company and I imagine their products are sold primarily or exclusively in Texas. It is common for private label brands to position themselves as knock-offs, which means you copy the category leader as closely as you can without landing a lawsuit for trademark infringement. They're obviously trying to say they're an alternative to Crown Royal, not just with the name but also with the packaging.Mexcor is a company that buys bulk spirits, including bulk Canadian whiskey, which it uses to create its own brands. There are a lot of these small, regional commodity producers around the country.
