Picked up a case last week for $104.88. A STEAL if you ask me.

That's the same bottle that I have at home. The new ones which I thought looked like they dropped the BIB designation is shown in this shot from the Sazerac web site, so I guess my question about BIB vs. non-BIB still stands.

IIRC, that pic has been floating around for a while. I think it's the result of photoshopping. If you see a 100 proof VOB that is NOT labeled BiB again, then take a picture and post it here. We need to know such things!

There has been a rumor for years that Barton was going to drop the BIB, either drop it all together or keep a 100 proof expression, but not as a BIB. If there was ever any truth to it, it hasn't happened.

About all Buffalo Trace plans to do with VOB is distribute it more widely.

Buffalo Trace has bottling plants at all four of its facilities (yes, even Bowman), but the one in Owensboro at the old Glenmore distillery is the largest and most modern.

I don't see any reason to start hoarding VOB, but I always have some in inventory.

When we toured Barton's/Tom Moore in September we were told that Sazerac was going to leave every thing the same for at least 2 years. Take that for what it's worth.

I've been able to get cases of the BIB from a local distributor here on the eastern shore. It's usually a little over $100. I believe it's coming from the Maryland Sazerac distributor.

Historically, VOB was a Kentucky-Tennessee brand, with a little additional distribution in the South, and that was about it. A few years ago, Binny's got them to bring it to Chicago and they probably responded to customer requests in a few other markets, but it was far from national when Sazerac got it. They indicated then that they would expand distribution, making sure they didn't over-stress the supply. I would expect that has begun.

In the latest issue of Malt Advocate (Fall, 2010) there is a piece titled

Ten Great American Whiskeys you may not know about (& Why), which

says that BT is "...holding off pushing the brand [VOB] until the new

packaging arrives." BTs Kris Comstock says VOB is only available in 3

states (KY, IN, TN) but perhaps the rest of us will be able to find it in

the near (?) future.

I was able to persuade our local distributor here in MD to carry it. It now sits on the shelf of every store in my county, at $10.99/750ml.

I didn't hit the edit button in time - the article does state that VOB is

available "...in minute amounts by special order in some other states."

so I guess you're one of the lucky "other" ones!

Binny's has it here in Chicago. Don't know about other stores in Illinois.

That's the one that's 45 minutes away!:cool: Depending on traffic of course.

All things considered it's easier to just pick some up out when I'm in Kentucky, Indiana or Chicago.
