jeff
What do you all think about having a chat session/tasting? We could all agree on a time and a selection of bourbons and post comments in real time. It could be educational to compare notes and try to detect nuances that others are describing. What do you think? Jim, is this doable?
jbutler
Sure it's doable. All we need to do is agree on a time, and round some folks up.

CL
It will also be an exercise in typing under the influence. Wait a minute. That happens half the time we are all on this discussion group!

jeff
Ok, it looks like we've got some interest Maybe everyone who is interested should post a day that would work for them and a couple of bourbons that you would find interesting to taste. Let's try to pick some that are readily available so that our black-sheep, err I mean our non-kentucky members will be able to participate. Sunday or Monday nights work best for me. I will suggest the following: AAA10yo or EW7 for a low end entry, OF86 or 100 or EC12 as a mid range entry, and maybe WR, EWSB or a WT product (RR or RB) as a high end (relatively speaking) entry. What do you guys think?
MurphyDawg
Sundays are better for me as I get off work an hour ealier (930 instead of 1030)TomC
Blackkeno
I would like to be in for it too. Although some of those "easy to find" bourbons (for example AAA 10yo) are not so easy to find here in Vegas.
jeff
How about next Sunday 11/24/2002 at around 10:00pm EST? I propose OF 100 Proof as the tasting subject. How does this sound?
MurphyDawg
The time is great, the problem is that it is 300 mile to the nearest liquor store that sells OF 100, and i am out of the 86, so phooey! / But I will join in Nonetheless. . . . . . ! Tom (I have Woodford Reserve & BDay Bourbon, sre they close enough, Jeff??) C
jeff
Maybe we coud make it a "family" tasting. Show up with any version of OF bourbon and we can try to detect the similarities and differences between them? How does that sound?
cornsqueezins
Sounds great to me. It would be a good time to do some OF/WR comparisons.
Blackkeno
I think a theme is good, but I really prefer several expressions rather than just one bottle. I don't currently have ANY OF though. I guess I better change that...

jeff
Thanks Jim. Remember everyone, the topic is Old Forester bourbon. So just show up with any or all three (86,100 and Birthday Bourbon). Oh yeah, I guess you can bring the "black sheep" of the family, Woodford Reserve P.S. Please show up even if you don't have any OF bourbon. It will be nice to talk to everyone.

jeff
Well, The chat came and when and I missed it. Not due to lack of trying mind you, but something about my DSL ISP kept me from connecting. Big ups to Jim for trying to get me connected. Anyway, I hope everyone who participated got something out of the discussion. Whilst I was waiting to connect I had three glasses in front of me: OF 86, 100 & BB. The "Triple Crown" so to speak Trying them side by side really reinforced my love for this bourbon. The BB wins the taste off, but OF100 is a photo-finish behind. Which says a lot considering the price difference. The 86 is good over-all bourbon, but my tastes lean toward the higher-proof versions. My 2 cents
