indyrider
Hey all....I'm doing a quick road trip from OH down to the BT & WR distilleries tomorrow! Starting out a WR and finishing up with the Hard Hat tour at BT...I'm excited to get behind the scenes so to speak and looking forward to spending the night in Frankfort. Any one care to comment on a few good shops to find a dusty or two or just a good selection. Good place for dinner?Any suggestions on how to burn through the $300 or so reserved for the juice to take home???
OscarV
One to pick up in KY is Four Roses Single Barrel 2009 Barrel Strength.Actually spend the whole three bills on it and then I can get some from you! I have been waiting for 6 weeks for this stuff to hit Chi-Town and it just doesn't seem like it will ever make it.Also see if you can get some W L Weller 12yo, the last three times I was in KY they were all sold out. indyrider
My local pop shop just started carrying four roses last week (or should I say OH finally let them in!) and I picked up both the 1b and sb....Liking the complexity of the 1b over the sb, but both are worthy pours!I agree...I'll pick up the weller if its available and I've yet to try etl, so thats on the docket.... OscarV
But they don't have the 2009 Barrel Strength in Ohio. Also get a bottle of JTS Brown Bottled In Bond, at $9.50 per bottle you won't be dissapointed, it's great on the rocks.

Josh
Hopefully will be able to amply sample in the local establishments prior to making my new purchases....Will look for the JTS bib...I've never had the JTS Brown, but I'm a big fan of the White Label Heaven Hill BiB 6 y/o. It looks cheap, but it's a great whiskey. In a similar category, Very Old Barton, the 90 proof or the BiB are also great values.
fishnbowljoe
Indy, Hope you have fun this weekend. The hard hat tour at BT is great. With a little luck you might get Freddie or Fred as a tour guide. I've been on a tour with Freddie, and Fred (mobourbon) is a member here at SB. Make sure to say hello if you get Fred. As far as bourbon recommendations go, I have to agree with some of the others that have posted. The FR Barrel Strength, JTS Brown BIB, Weller 12 and some of the other BIB's are all good ones to try and get. I'm not sure if they are out in stores yet, but a couple of weeks ago BT was bottling W L Weller and T H Handy from the BTAC. Those would be a couple more to keep an eye out for. Good luck and have a good one. Joe
jburlowski
Also grab some of the BT "white dog" if they are still selling it in the gift shop.
mobourbon
You'll enjoy the hard hat tour at BT. We are down for the summer but it's neat seeing everything. I will not be working tomorrow. Sorry I'll miss you. WL Weller 12 y/o is available at Ocean Breeze Liquors on Versailles Rd. They can give you directions to there and some restaurants in Frankfort. Gibbys on Broadway downtown is good and Jim's Seafood down the road from the distillery is also good. Have fun!
indyrider
Fred,Thanks for the tips and look forward to meeting you in the future. I'm sure I'll be down again in short order as I'm only 2 hrs north...Looking forward to having a great-albeit quick-trip.
indyrider
Great trip and my thoughts on the WR and BT distilleries can be found in a new thread. OscarV, thanks for the JTS BIB tip. Like you said, great on the rocks and really holds it own neat, actually! Didnt see the 4R barrel strength though. I'm guessing the Pappy 15 will more than make up for it! callmeox
Since you like the JTS Brown, you will be happy to know that it is available in Ohio so no road trips needed to re-stock.
