Hi guys. Elmer T. Lee, Master Distilller Emeritus of the (now) Buffalo Trace distillery, a true living legend, and man who has his own bourbon named after him, is turning 90 years old in a couple of weeks. There's going to be a small party for him and I'm flying down to be there.

I just posted on my blog where you can wish Elmer a Happy Birthday and say a word or two if you want. I'm going to take all your well wishes with me and see that he gets them. I thought maybe my fellow American Whiskey drinkers here at SB.com might want to say something. Thanks!

BTW, the party is a SURPRISE for Elmer, so if anyone emails him directly please don't mention the party.

Thanks John. This is a nice thing you're doing. I'll be sure to send my greetings along. Keep up the good work. Joe

During my years of 'bourboneering', one of the special occasions and memories is the day a group of us joined Elmer to select a couple of barrels for private bottling of his namesake bourbon. When the group split its decision on a favorite, we had the honor of allowing Elmer to cast a deciding vote.

Like almost everybody that day, I made sure I had a picture taken with the master:

Best wishes, Elmer, :toast: and great thanks for your lifetime of dedication and accomplishment for bourbon and American whiskey.

A true gentleman, I shared a dram of his signature spirit with him once. A great experience.

Thanks very much for letting us know, John. I have written a birthday post for Elmer on your blog.

It has been an honor to meet him at WhiskyFest and other events. He has always been very personable. And Elmer T. Lee bourbon has been a personal favorite of mine since I first began drinking bourbon.

Thank you for the complement.

I etched and painted the bottle myself. Shipped it to Kentucky to the

BT Distillery and one of the people working at the distillery is giving it to Elmer at his party tomorrow. I am hoping to get a picture with Elmer holding the bottle. I will post a picture if I get a copy.

As ETL is one of my absolute favorite whiskeys it was my pleasure to leave a note on the blog, thanks for the heads-up.

And that bottle is cool... ;)

Anxiously waiting.

The party for Elmer isn't until Thursday. So there won't be a pic until the end of the week.
