NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jimmy Bedford, the slender and silver-haired former master distiller of the Jack Daniel's whiskey during a 40-year career with the company, died Friday. He was 69.

His body was found outside a barn at his farm in Lynchburg, apparently the victim of a heart attack, company officials said.

I am very sad to here that Randy. As I have said many times before: I defiantly believe that JD is the most underestimated distillery on this forum.

I was shocked to hear the news myself, via Chuck.

Jimmy did so much for the brand in his time, and grew it to being the world's best selling whiskey. What an accomplishment.

I will raise a glass of Silver Select to Jimmy in his honor.

May he rest in peace.

Scott

My original post about Jimmy's death is here.

Since I posted that, I've been thinking about Jimmy. I only knew him in a professional capacity but spent enough time with him to form some impressions. In the hospitality business, working and socializing tend to blend together sometimes. Those memories are here.

Interesting that my posts about Jimmy's death, on Examiner.com and The Chuck Cowdery Blog, have received an enormous number of hits. JD has legions of followers, for sure.

I think it's their logo.

Have you ever noticed that people who like to wear that logo on whatever also are into the Harley-Davidson and the POW-MIA logos.

I asked my Brother-In Law once about the POW-MIA issue because he had a flag of that logo and he didn't really know much about their cause.

But he also has t-shirts, ball caps and belt buckels of Jack Daniels and Harley's.

He drinks Labatt's Light and doesn't ride a motorcycle.

I think it is redneck chic.
