cowdery
It recently made an appearance in another thread, here. It was explained there that it was made at the request of a Japanese customer who wanted a label with Fred's mug on it. It's only officially sold in Japan, but has appeared elsewhere. It's essentially Booker's.

whgaunce@alltel.
Ah So! Wonder how it ended up in beautiful Lexington, KY?
cowdery
My guess would be that Kentucky's listing requirements are pretty lax, so producers are able to dispose of excess inventory by simply releasing it into the Kentucky marketplace. Even when you're doing a special order you produce a little extra since you don't want to find you have too little when you ship the order to the customer. That's sensible, especially if you have an easy way to dispose of the excess. It's also possible that Beam, since they were making it anyway, thought they would do a small test to see if there was any domestic interest in that label. Kentucky law says that if you release something it has to be available to all licensed retailers on the same terms, but there's nothing about allocating supplies if they are very limited. Another possibility is that the customer in Japan sent some back and Beam dumped it into Kentucky.
