Grumble, Grumble - Can't find PVW Lot B

I'm beginning to think that the good folks who make PVW didn't make it this far west (Arlington, TX).

I see all you enthusiastic Lot B drinkers, and have been looking for it. None of the local big box stores (Majestic/Big Daddy's) have ANY PVW products, nor do any of the smaller stores/bottle shops. I suppose I shall have to brave the wilds of Dallas, and burn the gasoline equivalent of a case of Lot B as a sacrifice to the bourbon gods...

What surprised me is that inventory searches on Binny's and Sam's websites didn't turn up any Lot B either. Does anyone have links to reputable online sources?

Haven't seen but one place that carries Elmer T. Lee, either. Phooey!

I did find my ERSB (one store only) and Blanton (which is all over the place), so I have a consolation prize or two...

That's interesting as I just found out from a fellow Virginian that the VA ABC's are not carrying Lot B anymore, or at least it's not in stock. I wonder if this is indicative of a larger supply problem.

I'm making a trip into Balch Springs later today, so I'll check the stores there while I'm at it, and will swing by the Buy Lo that theDon mentioned as well.

Wheee!

The PVW are all coming hard to find in Michigan too. Which is a shame because I am just getting into bourbon and really enjoying the lot B

Best regards, tony

Plenty of it down here in Australia.....if I don't mind paying for postage or travelling 1000 miles to the nearest (only) stockist! And after that, it'll cost $125 AU (about $100 US)

Actually, I just ordered two bottles for the bunker. An early, early birthday present for myself :skep:

Was this from Burwood Cellars Cam?

Sure was Tym. I've been buying Van Winkle bottles from Graham for about 5 years now.

Nice! the 20yo is a few clams, the Lot B would be my bunker choice too, did i read somewhere that the Lot B will become scarcer over the next few years or is this something i've conceived? :skep:

Okay, now I feel better. I found a bottle of LotB, took it home, and settled it in with the rest of my stash.

If Anybody in NoVA needs to know where to find Lot B or GTS I know of a few bottles in Falls Church.

Finding Lot B at an ABC doesn't surprise me. Finding GTS still sitting on the shelf does. Back in 2006 I called around looking for GTS and only one store (Merrifield) had 6 bottles. That afternoon VA was cleaned out of GTS and I had 6 nice bottles sitting in my bunker.

I did contact Pappy Van Winkle, asking about the apparent shortage of PVW products.

The reply I got back said that this time of year it is hard to find their whiskey, but that a new run will be released in September.

I haven't seen it in the Majestics in Ft Worth either. I only know of three places here that seem to regularly get it. I guess that you finally found it in Dallas? I work part time at a small place in FTW and we usually get some when it comes out, but not a lot. Last time (right before the start of summer?) we only got a case of the Lot B and a little bit less than a case of the rest of them. Now that Goody-Goody is in town they seem to have it. And the only other one that I know of is Liq-O-Rama in north FTW. They seem to get a decent amount and all of the different expressions. They also always have Elmer T. Lee. This info is about the same for the BTAC although a few of the Majestics and King's will get some, but never all, of the bottles when that is released. Usually the Stagg and Eagle Rare.

Goody-Goody prices are not spectacular but decent, some are even good. Majestic is ridiculously high with their everyday prices but has some good sales. But Majestic doesn't carry VW that I have seen so no problem there. Liq-O-Rama that I mentioned is an independent. I know the owner and he is a really nice guy. His prices vary. Not always the cheapest (and that is the way it is with the non-chains a lot of times) but I would call them fair. And he has a good selection. I rarely cross the border to Dallas anymore so I don't know where to shop there. Where do you rec. in Dallas on the off chance that I end up there some day?

I would prefer to patronize independent places but, especially with things like the Van Winkle line, sometimes you have to get it where you can find it. The places that I mentioned were purely for the fact that I knew that they regularly get VW when it is released down here. And I thought that Ft Worth could be as close of a trip, if not closer, for a guy in Arlington. Especially a guy in need of Van Winkle.
