Sarge, that's a hard one. It is very rare, these days.....It is an exceptional bourbon....It's replacement is Mid $50's to mid $60's, now.....But, $80 seems like a lot......

Get it.

I assume you mean Pappy Van Winkle 15. That price seems really steep. I know that prices vary from one state to another but it's only $45 here, so $80 seems insanely high. But the juice is about as good as it gets--I'd keep looking or perhaps get Binny's to ship you some.

No, it is the ORVW. I have never seen the PVWFR 15, anywhere. Which would include CO, WA, CA, MT, and MI.

If I walked into a store and saw ORVW15-107 sitting there for $80, it would be going home with me.

My apologies. Having only been at this bourbon-hound thing for less than two years, I was unaware that there had even been an ORVW15, as it was discontinued some time ago and the only thing I've ever seen on the shelf is the PVW15. I should mention that the PVW15 is now becoming scarce around here--glad I've got four or five bottles bunkered!

Back to your original question, I'd jump on the ORVW15 for $80, as you may never get another chance to taste one. Good luck though explaining the "necessity" of the purchase to your wife.

I don't know if it's worth $80, but the retailer obviously know what he has, because the shelf price when he got it was probably $30.

Since your single you should just go back there and get that bottle.

Today, if I saw that on a shelf for $80, I'd gulp a little bit but I sure would be happy drive home with my new find.

Full disclosure: I left one on a shelf several years ago long before I was hard core and I regretted it. Luckily, I found another one some time later. I wish I could find some more.

Whew....$80 for an ORVW. Well, the upside is that it's SW bourbon for certain if that's important to you. As chuck alluded to, the seller obviously knows he's got something special and has priced it accordingly. Of course, I've seen ORVW go for more on an auction website.

The bourbon in that bottle is very good so if you want something that's rare....go for it. If $80 is a tough sell.....walk away.

$80 may seem pricey, but at the end of its issue it was frequently in the $40-$45 range. IMHO, it is probably the best wheater around so I would definitely be a buyer even at that price.

Get it or PM me and tell me where it is and I'll fly up and get it. This is one of my all-time favorites.

Passed on a bottle of pappy 15 Friday. I picked up weller 12 and ogd 114 with same money. Now that there's no guarantee it's sw bourbon, it's hard for me to pay the 50+ it commands.

man, what I wouldn't do to find a bottle of Pappy van winkle 15 year (either one) here in Kansas. good luck with that one. I tried PVW 15 when I was in Portland, Oregon- I was in a little chocolate/pastry shop/bar and they actually had a bottle behind the counter. it was one of the most amazing whiskeys I have ever, ever tried.

if I could find a bottle for a reasonable price, I would pounce on it! :hot:

You mention you live in Kansas which to my knowledge is not a controlled state. Therefore, if you're looking to get a bottle of Pappy, you can try online retailers and they can ship to you. If your profile listed your city, someone here might be able to point you to a store nearby.

Just because it's not a control state doesn't mean that other retailers can ship to you. Example: Kentucky.:hot:

Try Binny's in Chicago. They have an extensive selection of bourbon and rye that you can view on line. However, I suggest that you contact Brett Pontoni directly. He is their expert and may have some products that are not listed on their website.

I know the feeling. One of the local chains has several large stores in the KC area- they have sold a total of 3 bottles of PVW 15. There is a chance I'll have a bottle this fall. I think Van Winkle has made a major mistake pricing that drink at $40ish.

Hey Sarge, what was the verdict? It has been almost 4 weeks since you posted your find. Did you bring that baby home or is it still sitting on the shelf waiting for a good home?

The ORVW has eluded me in my hunts which leads m to believe it was hard to find even when they still produced it. I think I'll console myself by opening a bottle of PVW 15. There's a few in the bunker now and I won't have this problem in the future.
