Hello,

I'm new to the board but figure this must be the perfect place to ask this question...

I am alway looking for good bourbon's to buy my husband as a gift. For our anniversary I bought him a bottle of 20y/o Pappy and for Valentines Day I bought him Four Roses - Mariage Collection.

What next? Any suggestions for high quality, "meaningful," bourbons? He usually drinks Pappy 12 & Bookers...

Any ideas?

WOW !!! What a lucky man !!!!

You have already set the bar pretty high, but i'm sure we can find you something.

Can you tell us where you are? Trade areas seem to differ greatly with stock. Someone should really be able to zone in on a bottle... perhaps tell you whick Liquor stores to visit.

but w/o knowing where you are, let me start with a few that might fit the bill.....

The new Jeffersons Presidential Select

Any Willett "private labels"

Wild Turkey American Spirit

George T. Stagg

William Larue Weller

Good luck on your search !!!

Sounds to me like "Parkers Heritage" should be right in his strike zone, and there are two versions out with a third on the way.

George T. Stagg would be popular also. 2009 issue on the way.

Maybe an older Rye - Rittenhouse or Sazerac - if you want to head in a slightly different direction that he is probably going to like.

Where are you at has a big difference on what we can recommend as to what available to you and when is your anniversary? That being said there are several special bottling coming out in the near future. There is a new Marriage coming out in Sept different from the one before. There's the Parker Heritage Collection 50th anniversary but this is going to be a $150 bottle but a one of a kind never to be repeated if I was to pick one this would be it. If he knew the story behind this bourbon he would fall out over this one. It's a vatting of bourbons from five decades when Parker Beam was master distiller at Heaven Hill. So some(very little)of the bourbon in this bottle is 50 years old. There a Four Roses Single Barrel Proof 2009 that's out now and is about sold out. The Jefferson Presidential Select 17 year old that just came out which is a limited production. The Old Forester Birthday Bourbon is due out soon. The BTAC is coming out in October. The fall release of Pappy Van Winkle will be out soon. So there's a lot to choose from right now.

The Parker Heritage sounds great (when does this come out) and its good to know that another Mariage is coming out as that was a hit.

I am actually looking for a good gift upon the birth of our 4th daughter (yes you read it right) in November. We live in central North Carolina (near Chapel Hill) which is a terrible place to buy Bourbon I've found. We have state run ABC stores so I have always ordered any "special" bourbons online.

I figure that as the father of 4 girls he deserves some high quality spirits.

Thank you so much for your help. My husband will be most grateful to you.

Whoa! 4 daughters. Congratulations, to you both. I'm afraid, though, with 5 females running the house, he is going to need a very manly drink to help achieve balance. :D George T. Stagg is your obvious choice, then. ;) I don't know if you get to Charlotte, at all. But, there is a Good liquor store (Frugal MacDougal's) right across the border in Rock Hill, South Carolina, off of I-77 that carries a lot of special bourbons...including Stagg. They'll probably see it in October. Congratulations, again!

Oh, my!

One of my best friends has 8 ovaries in his house (wife & 3 daughters).

I can just imagine what your husband is going through with 10! ;)

Eagle Rare 10-year-old. Gorgeous package and if he's never had it before, he'll think you're a genius (and it's only about $25-$30).

The other night we were kidding Dan, our neighbor, about living with his wife and two daughters. We said that, at least, he was the decision maker.

He scoffed, "Decision maker! I rank somewhere below the animals. Sometimes I think they keep me around just in case the cat needs a transplant."

Congratulations on the impending 4th daughter. It must be quite a kick to go into a store pregnant and buy bourbon!

I live in the other atmosphere, being the only female in a house of husband and sons. And now I'm the shortest one, too. I have a hard time keeping bottles in the cabinet.

I got a bottle of 2007 birthday bourbon this last birthday, and cherish it. however, in the spirit of the bourbons that she's bought him before, I strongly suggest the Jefferson's Reserve Presidential select if you can find it. Like the PVW 20 and four roses marriage, it's somewhat limited and expensive. if 90 dollars for a bottle of whiskey is a turn off, by all means, go with the birthday bourbon, which is a very fine pour.
