OscarV
I was thumbin' thru the current Whisky Magazine today and I see they have an Evan Williams Single Barrel review. They do an analysis of 11 years.BTW, when was the first year? From 1989 thru 1999. They have a 5 star rating method and all 11 got 4 out of 5.
smokinjoe
I believe the first year was 1986, Oscar. Personally, I've never had a EWSB that I didn't really, really like. Regardless, of where it was distilled. 1994 is my favorite. And, the 1999 is my second fav.
EMalt
I'm sippin' the 1999 right now and i think it's very good (lot's of rye in there?). I have not had any others before so can't compare, but have a 1994 and 1997 on order.Grtz,EMalt
ErichPryde
I just bought a bottle of 1996 that was barreled in October of 96, a half-a-month before the fire. It is stellar whiskey. From what I've read, I would love to try the 1994, but I can't find anything earlier than '97 here (except the lucky bottle of 96). I will keep my eyes open. I will definitely purchase a bottle of 1999 before I finish this off to do a comparison- I'm getting a lot of rye out of this whiskey.Honestly, the EWSB I'm sipping right now won me over to heaven hill. Before this bottle, I had only really tried Elijah Craig and the standard Evan williams. I liked the Elijah Craig well enough, but there was something I didn't like about it... couldn't put my finger on it. this single barrel evan williams has a very unique personalitythat I really enjoy. I will definitely be buying it in the future.
jburlowski
While they are all good, I don't think they have been anywhere that consistent in quality. Like others, I pick the 1994 as my fave. The 1999 is uninspiring.
Drazzamatazz
I just moved back down to school in Rhode Island and there is a liquor store the next block over from me that seems to serve mainly college and/or low-income clientele.I happened to notice they have a ton of 1994's but they are $29. I currently have the 1999 which I got for a good price but haven't opened yet.Is it with grabbing because they are that difficult to find, or should I look elsewhere for a better price? cowdery
That's not a terrible price. The 1994 is very good and if I had that store close to me, I'd definitely pick up a couple of them, and depending on how flush I felt that day, maybe all of them.
