I had found 5 bottles of 12 YO WT here and there but it must have been someones idea of great Christmas gifts or Thanksgiving Bourbon, It has dried up. BrendaJ got one maybe she'll let us drink off of her.

</snip>

you must've been readin' my mind... smile.gif I snatched that bottle with next year's Bourbon Festival in mind. I just hope I can walk past it for that long... crazy.gif

I guess this Stagg will keep my busy for awhile... smirk.gif

Alright StraightBourbonians we have a situation here! Send cash , checks or credit cards, We got to get those bottles away from Beej and into Linn's hands for safe keeping. If ever there were 2 bottles of liquor that needed to be 2 states away from its' owner , we have it here. Or else the memory of WT12 will fade like a bad dream. She said she'd let us have a drink, If and that's a big if they are still around come September! Beej , did you get your bottle of Stagg ? I saw it at hurstbourne lane. I started to tell them I came to get it for you! What are friends for? That needs to be entrusted to Linn as well.

I found out today if you got Stagg you got friends , well if you give them a drink. My boss had heard me talking about Stagg he said he wanted a taste, so me being the Brown Noser, I mean Faithfull Employee that I am I said You're talking to the right guy. I was off today so I went over there with a shotglass and my opened bottle of Stagg. He poured him up a good one , Likes it , wants a bottle. Damn , is it really supposed to work like that? There's a place we do business at that one day I walked in and they had a Bottle of Beam going, I had to help them out. They have ordered some Stagg but don't have it yet, So I drop in and give them a taste. You pretty much are welcome anywhere if you take Stagg with you! These free give away drinks are adding up I can't keep doing this , going in the hole. Or am I?They out with a plastic milk jug full of the angels share of Fine , Very Fine Ky Bourbon. I won't say who made it ( about 10 years old, If you gonna hose a barrel make sure it's an old one!) It was right up there, and if I did say , and I won't, whose it was , everyone would be shitting themselves hoping that that would be the next new Bourbon.Yum Yum Yum BleeeE . My ulterior motive was if they didn't like Stagg they might forfeit thier Stagg order. No such luck, I think they are rather proud of the fact they got Stagg coming. I'm going to have to break out the Ten High soon , It's hard to think about anything other than Stagg . If a Bourbon ever blows it away, Not much chance of that! grin.gif

Bobby,

Truer words were never spoken (typed). But relax, you have my solemn word I'll save the Turkey.

You see, I actually grabbed two bottles of the Stagg. And don't you laugh...my son briefly mentioned (great minds think alike) picking up YOUR bottle for YOU... grin.gifgrin.gif

Alas, I owe my brother-in-law, so he gets one of the bottles. The upside to that is, I'll get to help him drink it... smirk.gif

I'm already into the other bottle, gave Bettye Jo a taste yesterday. This is alcoholic cottoncandy with an incredible finish. Did you know it's 15 years old?

I remember Ken Weber saying it is 15 YO but there is no age statement front or back on the bottle. Keep that other bottle of Stagg ! pay your Brother in law back with EWSB or KnobCreek. Hell that's what they made Woodford Reserve for! grin.gif I'm serious if he doesn't know it's coming pull a switch-a-roo I don't think we are going to see much more of it. cool.gif

I was going to get your bottle of Stagg, You wasn't going to see it again. I couldn't do it , the thought of you in tears at the counter was one image . Another was you kicking over a bunch of displays. wink.gif

OK people. 45% of you say you can't find Stagg. Well, I just came from the Liquor Barn on Richmond road and there were 8 bottles just sitting there for the taking. If you are anywhere near here, get in your car and drive! Otherwise call your favorite retailer and ask them to special-order you some. Remember, you have only one shot to get all you can. For in a short while Stagg will be no more, and the world will weep frown.gif

I just registered my "yes" vote. (BTW, I also discovered that one's vote registers even though an error message, "htp 404" or some such, appears immediately after one votes. There were five yes votes before I voted and six afterward; but I digress.)

If you live in a state that allows direct shipment of liquor, and you want a bottle of George T. Stagg, dial the following number immediately:

1-800-331-3005

and place your order. Or go to the Hi Times website and place your order online. (I guess you'll have to search on "Stagg" to get to the right page. When I first entered this post, I thought the URL that I entered would take you right to the George T. Stagg listing, but it didn't work for some reason.)

I was told that they had received three (or was it four?) cases. I took three bottles and two more disappeared as nearby Christmas shoppers overheard my conversation with the man who was trying to keep the shelves stocked.

Now I have created a bit of a problem for myself. My son has told me that he bought me for Christmas a bottle of what the store clerk called the "best bourbon your Dad will ever taste". Knowing that he frequently passes the Wine & Liqour Depot in Van Nuys, I had assumed that it was Pappy Van Winkle, because I was so sure that the Stagg would never make it to California. On the off chance that he may have found a bottle of George T. Stagg, I have decided to wait until Christmas to open any of my bottles. If my kid bought me one, I want his purchase to be the first one I taste, and in his presence.

To keep from going completely crazy with anticipation between now and Christmas I picked up a bottle of Jefferson's Reserve (will I later regret spending that amount when I could have added to my stash of Stagg?), Weller 12 year old, and a couple of replacement bottles.

Yours truly,

Dave Morefield

Dave,

The error 404 or "file not found" was caused by my restarting of our firewall at the time you were posting, and not some inherent problem with this site.

I received my order from Sam's today. Received 2 bottles as a Christmas present from my wife. They sure look nice. Can't wait to open one up, but I'm waiting until a little virus bug that's visiting with me hits the road. I guess I should also wait till Christmas too, but whether I can (or will) wait remains to be seen! wink.gifwink.gif

I anxiously awaited my sister to show up at my parents this past Friday night. I couldn't wait for that box with three bottles of Stagg and one 1.75L of BT to come through the door!

Alas, she was late and I had to wait a couple hours longer. Then, she got there and had a very scared look on her face. Yep, in all the confusion in getting on the road, she had left my Stagg sitting inside her front door back in Indiana. frown.gif

She felt so guilty, I just couldn't get mad at her. Actually, I wouldn't have been mad. Her 23 month old is a hand full and can divert your attention quite easily.

Oh well. She said she'd put one bottle in the mail today for me. I told her to hold on to the rest until the next time we meet. I figured that would keep me from drinking too much of it anyhow. crazy.gif

In my search for more Stagg, I decided to try shipping some in instead of bugging my sister yet again to hunt down some bourbon for me in Louisville.

Last Friday, I checked Sam's Wine's web site. They did not list Stagg. So, I checked Internet Wine's web site. They did list it and they did not have NC on their list of states they could not ship to. Their web site accepted my order and I received an email confirmation. Yesterday, Internet Wines cancelled the order on me due to lack of stock.

Today, I called Sam's to see if they could get some Stagg for me. They said they were out at the moment, but they expected more in. So, I placed an order. However, they told me that they couldn't ship to NC, so I instructed them to ship it to my parents in WV when it came in.

I decided to call Internet Wines back to inquire whether they had cancelled the order because of NC law or because they were out of stock. The person I spoke to told me that I cancelled the order because they couldn't immediately fill my order. I told them that was not true. They offered to reorder the Stagg for me, saying that they have more on order and expect it soon. I declined because of my Sam's order. However, they did say they could ship to NC.

Internet Wines also said they had a warning on their web site next to the Stagg bottle saying that it was on backorder and expected in late January. I told them it wasn't on the web site either last Friday when I ordered nor today when I checked again. Bottom line, Internet Wines isn't at the top of their game.

Actually, before all this started, I knew that NC did not allow interstate shipments of wine into the state (for residences). I knew this because there have been several news stories about it because NC allows NC wine to be shipped. There is a law suit saying that the law discriminates against out-of-state wines.

Because of this rule on wine, I assumed that spirits were in the same category. This is why I never tried to order before and why I always had my sister shop for me in KY. But, my quest for Stagg last Friday led me to try anyway. Worst case, I would have it shipped to my parents home in WV.

I assume that Internet Wines and Sam's both know the shipping laws, so it's even more perplexing that they gave me a different answers.

All I want is a little more Stagg (ok, alot more). But, the effort is worth it for this rare treasure.

Went to Sam's tonight. There was a big empty space where the Stagg was supposed to be. The price was $41, but alas, it was all gone.

For anyone concerned, I was at Randall's Spirits (internetwines.com) saturday and they had Stagg in stock at that time.

Checked internetwines.com's site and no MA shipping frown.gif (I knew it, but just to be sure), even if I wanted to cough up the very high price of their Stagg: $83.30 plus shipping! Wow!

At this point, I'm going to assume Stagg and other phantoms (OFBB, Ridgewood Reserve 1792, etc.) don't really exist: they are just internal "duty free" products. My best bet is to just reallocate my set-aside Stagg funds for ER17 (if it appears again) and maybe even Hirsch 16 (available in RI, maybe). Ed

I'm doing the same thing here in Houston. Got a couple bottles of Stagg (the city of Houston was "allocated" 9 whole bottles), and now I'm stocking up on the 2003 ER17 which appears to be plentiful.....at this time. What's curious is that the ER17 is a few $ more than the Stagg.

I was able to get a bottle of Stagg, ER 17 and Sazerac at a local, relatively tiny LI liquor store all for $45 each. grin.gifgrin.gif They only had 3 bottles of each, so I did good by buying 33% of their delivery! drink.gif

I GOT IT! bowdown.giflol.gifbowdown.gif Thanks to the AMAZING generosity of an SB.com member, I now have a bottle of the Stagg 2003! bowdown.gifbowdown.gif I have to say that I was floored by this unexpected turn of events: SB.com is nothing short of a great community in terms of the people actively involved and their genuine eagerness to help out new members and share their considerable bourbon (and other) knowledge and experience. No surprise there at all, BUT it so happened that the SB.com member who was so generous to me was motivated by a similar "generosity of spirit" grin.gif previously shown to him by another SB.com member. This is exactly what a community is, and should be, all about! So I hereby promise to "pay it forward" in like fashion, first chance I get and I want to thank everyone here at SB.com (and an extra thanks and tip of the hat to Jim Butler for his ongoing work keeping this site so functional and hot) for making this little miracle a reality! bowdown.gifbowdown.gif You folks are the BEST! Cheers and very Happy Holidays to all! Ed

I just found out that New Hampshire has (at least as of the close of business on 12/19) 10 bottles of Stagg at $42.99. They are at these stores/locations:

Store 76 Hampton 3 bottles

Store 67 Hooksett 3 bottles

Store 38 Portsmouth 3 bottles

Store 34 Salem 1 bottle

I cannot get to these places anytime soon mad.gif, but if anyone else wants to score these for themselves, go for it! smile.gifsmile.gif Cheers and GO STAGG! May there be Stagg for everyone! Ed
